Grow Mediums Hans’ Autopot Grow and Show – Gorilla Glue / Red Poison

Yes front row seat,i loved my autopot that much last grow i had to get a bigger tent so i can use 2 now .lots of new guys using autopots now, would be nice if they popped in and watched the master autopotter in action.nice to see you back at it hans, girls are looking healthy bro good luck :goodluck:
What's up bro. Yeah I saw your Brooklyn Sunrise great example of what these autopots can do  I've been using these for a couple years now and in my opinion it's the best system on the market... I really have no desire to even try anything else with the results I've been getting, plus their simplicity and convenience suits my lazy growing style perfectly lol :p

6 months without growing think I would go nuts subbed up dude just a heads up on the silica it will raise your ph up would wish you good luck on your grow but you don't need it

Amused ourselves to death
Hey Wile, yeah it's been a long 6 months lol... Usually I get 3 grows in for the year but had family visiting this spring so had to hold off and then it's been unusually hot for the start of Sept so had to wait a bit longer... so needless to say I'm happy to be growing again  Thanks for the heads up on the silica I guess I'll need to check the first time I add it to my res to see if it's messing with the pH perfect nutes.

My next grow will be in Autopots. Definitely subbed for the Maestro!
Welcome Sandy, thanks for stopping in... I'll be making this journal as detailed as possible so others can use it as an Autopot guide, feel free to ask any questions along the way bro.

I'm very happy to have come across this thread as you are one of the handful of growers I look up to! I'm very excited to see how this run goes. Can I ask why you're using Grotek Pro-Silicate versus Rhino Skin?
Cheers Meef, hope I don't disappoint  I picked up the Grotek Silicate just for the price really, was 1/4 the cost of the Rhino skin... Others have said it works just as well so we'll see if I notice any difference, hoping for some extra strong branches to hold up all the fat buds I'll have ;)

i would also like to ask why you put the disc in gold face down in the pot do you not get the black marix disc for the pot and then the gold one goes under the pot gold face up or is that because you have found it better in the pot for root controll ?
if it works better that way i will do that next grow.because even with the black disc in the bottom and the gold one in the tray i had lots of roots coming out the bottom of the pot and ended up buying a pot sock
I have the Autopot USA kit which only comes with the Root Control Disc, the black matrix disc only comes with the UK versions. Here's the Autopot USA Beginners Guide
I have yet to have any issues with the roots getting into the trays so you may want to try it this way next time.

Aye, it might just be the larger 25 L pots making the difference or the strains I've grown, or maybe.......I don't put "anything" as a layer at the bottom....dunno why this is recommended and what the intended purpose might be........doesn't matter, them pots with the automatic gearbox just get on with it regardless.

Glue and poison.........say no more View attachment 635842

I intend to do an Autopot run with coco next, so lead the way.......interesting comments about the root disk(s), I've stopped using the disks because I haven't so far seen roots wandering into the tray, but I'm in the 25 L Autopots. I bought 6 extra pots, just the pots to swap in and forgot to order the disks, so used some run-of-the-mill polypropylene ground cover cut into shape in 3 pots and 3 without. I do see the same as others using airdomes, there's hardly any tap root but a fine web throughout the root ball.

Good luck man, not that I think you need it
Hey Corgy, good to see you buddy... Coco is definitely the way to go with these Autopots, I'll never switch back to another medium after seeing the difference it made for me.
Yeah the RDC's are cheap enough that I wouldn't try it without them but maybe not needed with the 25L pots as you say.

Yeah with the Airdomes the bottom layer is really not required especially with coco... I think that guideline is more to cover the soil grows without the Airdomes (root rot could definitely be an issue then). Even with the Airdomes though it may have some benefit... I picture the bottom of the pot acting almost like a bubble bucket which is supercharging the water and roots with oxygen.

I see you use Voodoo Juice and Cal-Mag from the start is this the secret to getting a good start in coco and how long before you add nutes or do you just use just voodoo juice and calmag untill you turn the pots on.are you still keeping the leds 30 inch from the seedlings and letting them grow to the light.

you did say ask any questions and there will be alot more to come lol

Thats how i see it hans.because the airdome is so full of roots when you have a look after the grow.i was even thinking it would be even more like hydro if you could make a square dome that fits the whole of the bottom of the pot edge to edge 5cm deep,it would be just a thick 5cm layer of roots getting tons of nutes and oxygen

Haha no problem bro, ask away.

Yes I add cal-mag to every watering starting from day 1... I'm using RO water though so if you're using tap water you probably wouldn't need to start adding it until later. I add Voodoo for the first 3 weeks while I'm still hand watering then stop once I turn on the pots. I will give them their first bit of nutes (0.5ml/l) around day 5 with coco.

Yes I usually start at 28-30" with the LEDs, the GG was stretching a bit more than usual so it's about 26" above now... I'll let them grow towards the light then try to maintain about 18" from the tops during flower.
