Hello guys. I wonder if I can get some decent buds with a 250w hps light. I dont want to use 400w or 600w because I dont want to deal with the heat. Thanks

250w or 400w, you're still going to have a lot of heat and pricing isn't that much difference. The hood/fixture type will make a difference too. Describe your grow area, please? or pics...

Thx!

Hello Fish. I don't have a grow area yet, I am just planning. I thought I wouldn't need a extractor fan if I use 250w.

I use 3 150 watt HPS and the heat is not bad. I imagine one 250 wouldn't be bad.

Depending on the size of your grow area heat could still be an issue. Plus you will want to keep bringing fresh air into the grow, so an exhaust fan will still be needed. I'd suggest 4" fan with a variable speed controller so you can speed up or slow down the exhaust fan to help regulate the temps inside the grow area.

I have a friend with a 250w hps setup

Secret jardin ds 60.... DS60 (60x60x150cm)
S&P td250 2 speed fan with filter that fits..
A normal wing for the bulb

Ambient temp is about 20c

Tent temps is steady about the 26c mark..give ore take

2 hydro buckets 10L will fill that tent with ease.

And like muddy suggest.. better with a fan with speedcontroller

Just my 2 pennies

I even got a 400watter in my Darkstreet 60 but with Cooltube. 250 w ia max for that Tent but why u want to go on the Old Stuff go get Yourself a 300w Led instead of a Energy Wasting 250w Hps and start to grow denser Nugs like a 600 or 1000w Hps does. Just my 2 cents cause i never would go back to Hps since i have Led(i Replaced 400w hps with a 180w ufo and i have bigger yields and denser Nugs since then)

I found that any HID light in an enclosed space will require some ventilation. I run a pair of 400w HID with standard wing in 4x4x7 Lighthouse with a pair of 200 cfm fans. Temps in the mid-upper 70's. Yes LED's will run cooler...
IF you can afford them.

Short answer: Yes, you can get decent buds with 250W HPS. Do a quick search around here for "250W HPS grow" and you'll see your results.

Long answer: HPS of any kind produces heat so without knowing the rest of your setup variables, it's hard to tell you much beyond this.

I run two 400W HPS in cool tubes in a 4 ft x 4 ft x 7 ft tent and a 1000W HPS in an area about 5 x 3 ft. It gets hot brother. Summer time you have no choice but to run an A/C. Extraction fans are a necessity. Not hard to spike temps into 90-100+ degrees F if you aren't monitoring or if an extraction fan quits working.

If you decide to go with HPS but aren't quite sure if you are going to scale up; you can always get a dimmable ballast, which usually run at 100%, 75%, and 50% power depending on your needs. You could easily run 300W or 200W of HPS if heat became an issue and it still allows you to scale up a bit.

Would also get a vented hood or cool tube for sure; typically the vented hoods will give you better coverage with the light but the cool tubes allow much better airflow at the expense of less coverage (usually they come with these crappy little reflector wings.)

So hopefully that at least answers your original question; although to decide if that's the right light for you we would need to know the rest of the details of the setup (which sound like they will come in the future.)

Let us know if you need any additional help brother!

XL cool tube is great, but it's HUGE!!! LOL!
