I have been told that I need to put my plants in 3 days of darkness. Is that before or after my 2 weeks of flushing with just straight water??

at the end of your flushing period, how do you grow, what medium do you grow in? depending of growing method/type/feed you might only need a weeks flush

for my dark period I put it in the fridge

DS- The dark period is done just prior to harvesting; it's during night hours that the plant is regenerating the terpenes and cannabinoids that were lost during the day; you'll find that max. aroma (unless it's cold) in the morning,... light, UV, heat, wind, all take their toll on these compounds; indoors, of course, not as much!... folks will be all over the map on this, but the general consensus I gather is 36-48 hrs is more the norm,.... after this amount of time, production really tapers off,..there is a limit to how much the plant will regenerate, right? Otherwise, the trich's would burst, and buds don't weep copious amounts of resin like a opium poppy seed pod does .... there will be differences among strains too... During the dark period, some folks trim off the worst of the fan leaves, to open airflow up some and prevent potential mold probs.... also, the plant should go into the dark cycle on the dry side, not with well moisten soil... :smokeit:

I've personally stopped worrying about getting them in the dark for 3 days. If they get to tall for my "dark room" then I don't bother and to tell the truth I've noticed no difference. Now the cold I've noticed a big difference but not in my bud size or sugar production but in my dry time. Get em cold up top and the water goes to the roots. I'm sure some will chime in with different thoughts on the subject and they to are worth a listen. But you won't ruin your bud if you skip the dark process. I doubt the bud one buys off the street was ever given the dark treatment or care and time your going to put into yours. Oh waira is dead on about the moisture. Don't put em in the dark wet. I did once and it made for really soggy buds that took forever to dry.

Hey waira, thanks for the great and jam packed information as always. This was I on my things of things to research tonight (does it ever end?:D), and I just happened to see your post on the feed. Now copied and pasted into my ever growing documents on growing. I will need to get a new external hard drive to hold all the pertinent info I run across daily.:check:

You deserve a max

Romeo makes a good point too, there's nothing mandatory about it; results are truly variable,...and he's grown waaaay more than I have,... LOL! Others will swear by it! It helped a bit on some of my plants, but not all, at least with trichome size... aromatics were noticeably more intense after 36hrs though...:smokeit: *snnniiiifff-....ahhhhhh*
