Hi all at afn
I'm wanting to build a new grow room instead of using a tent the reason being issues with noise and smell and lack of height.
I was wanting to know which materials preform best for lining the walls to stop the noise of fans and pumps I tried covering the outside of my tent with boards of kingspan but wasn't impressed with the end results there's got to be better preforming materials out there to use has anybody got any suggestions are used materials that work well for this sort of job.
Thanks for any help I receive.

You can use the same insulation they put in houses between the wall studs.

I've had good results if I suspend my fan with bungee cords. wrap it with house insulation and use a muffler on the exhaust side of it. I made my own muffler with a tube and egg carton foam on the inside.

by house insulation do you mean the thick rolls of rockwool you put between the beams in a loft?

any ideas what to use to stop the smell leaking out is It possible to get a room air tight?
when using a tent I had twice a much air going out as coming into cause negative pressure I thought there wouldnt be any smell outside the tent all air gong out was filtered and vented straight outside the room but u could still smell it in the room any sugestions that have been tried and tested please do accoustic fans or ducting have a big impact on noise reduction?
I like the idea of a muffler

Yes the pink fiberglass insulation. or some foam. anything that will muffle the noise.
As far as the smell,,,,, spend the money and get a good can or fresh filter if you do that you could vent it right into your grandma's house and she wouldn't smell it!

Hello bigbb

Building a wooden grow box will solve your problem for much %

Build the growbox and use all your fans IN your grow box..up and down so they dont use much space of your growwbox

Build another small wooden boxes to place inside the fans you've got and make sure that the wood have 7-10 cm distance from the fan each side of the fan..

Then you will use inside the boxes where the fans be placed in soundtrap and soundproof materials..

In the first phase you will insert soundbar

at all of the box sides so you stop the noise wave with this material and then you are going to use the classic soundproof panel

this material absorbs the noise..
Oh use soundproof tape where the light go out of the box for maximum results and of corse you have to use insulated duct before and after the fans..

So you have in the midle the fan , and it emits much noise, then the noise geting in the soundproof panel and the soundproof panel absorb 95% noise (for example) then the less 5% noise going through this material and it gets stopped by the soundbar material (sound bar material is from rubber) and after this material you have the wood to so you dont worry.
By this way you are going to soundproof the fan of the noise by much much%

and then for the smell if you use the right carbon filter for your outtake fan you are going to have no problem, but make sure that you have buy the expensive one that the growshop recoments you for your cubic feet of your fan and you are going to see much results..

hope that helps.. :D

stay safe
