Apologies to those who have yet to experience the thrills n spills of a holiday to Amsterdam.

For those who have, I have one simple question. What is your fave coffeeshop. Or Brown Cafe if you prefer. I bet most of us started at the Grasshopper or maybe one of the British Bulldog cafes, but there are tons of cool smoke dens. Please share your good times with us and we can make up the AFN guide to good cafes in the Dam.

For me, I always loved The Doors Cafe which was a tribute to Jim Morrison and had the finest Nepalese Grey Temple Balls. Oh boy, I'm drooling again.

Over to you AFN'ers.

If you can remember this information you did not go to Amsterdam...

I jest!

I can however only validate the power of Nepalese Temple Balls....this is pretty much why I can't remember going....

My favourite (well the only one I ever frequented after my first visit ) was Stix on Utrechtstrass. It only had 3 tables. I was on Skype to an ex squeeze who is Dutch last week and he told me Stix had closed down and there was something sleek and modern called Boerejongens in its place. As far as I am concerned the end of an era. Hope the staff have carried over to the new business......

I don't care to spend much time in the coffee shops. I prefer to drop in, make my purchase and then wonder the city in amazement. Especially the Rijksmuseum where I can spend hours on end stoned looking at amazing works of art. I appreciate the semi-legality of the city but there is so much more to do in Amsterdam than spend the entire time sitting in a cafe.

Never been, so I'll just live vicariously through the stories you share. That will have to hold me over until I am able to make the trip! LOL

Bandit, we need to plan a holiday. The AFN World Tour- Amsterdam! We can split the book rights ;)

Does anyone know if Mellow Yellow is still open? I'm a sucker for vintage, and they were the first..
And, do people toke in public in the 'Dam? Or, what do the police do to people toking in public?

That's more my thing, too, A4. So much earth shattering art, architecture, and longevity!

Yes, and the people are wonderful to talk with. A very modest and kind group of people for such a world renown city. One tip for anyone going, never go into the Anne Frank Museum stoned. You will come out like a blubbering idiot. It is quite an emotional trip.

I've not had the pleasure of the dam yet, it's top of my list though! Rotterdam was pretty rad though!
