Just wondering if anyone has tried using solar to offset energy cost? If so could you point me in the right direction. Thanks

I would like to know this too..been a idea for a while just havent did the research..got sun year round so would be perfect..wuold like to know what size panel and battery etc to power say...500-600W of LED plus fans prob a total of 800-1000w max prob alot lower than that..AC units take alot of power deal with that later wehn i get one..

say 800 W continous.... its expensive... very!

www.solar-electric.com

800 w for 16 hrs a day say... = 12800 watts... / 48 volt battery bank = 266 AH.... triple that for resverve capacity (cloudy days etc)
so 266*3= 800 AH

then you need charge controllers (Might as well get an Outback MPPT charge control which gains about 30% off the same panels as conventional) (about $800)

then you need a sine wave inverter... a good one is about $2500 (Outback)

then panels... you need to collect 12,800 watts minimum in 6-8 hours... say 6 for safety of numbers:
2100 watts / hr.... so you need
say http://www.solar-electric.com/ky215wamusom.html x 10 of those

so in panels: $2460

then you still need copper bus wire, terminals, a shed for housing batteries and inverters... etc etc

Easily #20,000

Ouch!!!!!!! OK guess I need to recalculate the watts...first how to do that? as I have seen some people spend 30-50,000 in panels etc for the house..so I maybe wrong somewhere..even my cloudy days are sunny...dont really get cloudy no sun unless a big storm which doesnt happen every year...thinkin 2-4 led panels and fans Ill run off main elec as their small...hmm

you can use a cheap inverter up front for those probably... but if you do go for solar... spend the money up[ front on a good outback charge control like this:

MPPT or Maximum Powerpoint Tracking makes a huge difference in panel efficiency... and since a big hunk of the cost up front is panels... do the math... you get my point.. :toke:

and get good "Trojan" deep cycle batteries... they last 20 years with little maintenance...

second best is AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat)
Concorde makes a good one.

yes I...I do plan on building another house hopefully by the end of the year and wanted to put the house on solar..something with the gov here they will almost pay half of it after you buy it and will buy energy from you..but just want the room taken care of first dont know if theyll help pay for a solar room...lol
keeping this page cause this ive been thinkin on for too long..I saw at a hardware store here they were selling a panel with baterry etc a lil kit but didnt understand they say 100w panel but how many watts can that do..I will be checkin on the links you put up to find it out..Thnx.
