Hello :)

In my humble opinion autoflowers are getting more consistent as high quality professional breeders refine and refine their strains.
We're seeing more consistently large yields with the latest strains and smoke reports that are all tallying up.

I grow both photos and autos and to be honest, with some of the latest strains coming out in the Autoflower market - i sometimes wonder why i do photos. There's trade offs for both, and i occasionally get tempted with a photo strain (*cough* ...*strawberry cough*) .. but not as tempted as the mass of new autos .. Dragons ... StarRyders, BlueMazzars .. FirexC99 to name just a few.

Taste wise, if someone put a high quality auto joint in my hands, and then a high quality photo joint - i don't think i'd be able to tell the difference.

Just my thoughts!
All the best

I agree almost to the tee, but there is one factor that plays a role in everyones view, and thats folks that give auto's, a try, and make an early error, and go on sites to bad mouth the breeder, and the auto's themself. The other is money hungry breeders who put out auto strains that have not been properly tested. other than that it looks like they have made vast improvements. thanks again for any replies.

I must say that with the autos I've grow there is a wide range with in the seeds for height. And you can stretch them and make them compact depending on many things and methods. I grow all my girls exactly the same, except for one current grow, and I get a wide range of heights, but the smoke stays the same from stain to strain for the most part. And to me it's the quality of the smoke that counts! :2cents:

You're not wrong there Mckb. .. It's a shame they went to the wrong sites!

When a new (or new autoflower) grower comes here, they get a warm welcome, some great advice to get them started and help throughout the grow. There's been as many growing disasters here as on most photo forums, but I think the encouragement members give each other here (and the fine examples of what can be achieved when done correctly) is what sets AFN apart and also the reason why so many growers are getting such good results with autos.

It's always easy to point the finger when something goes wrong with a grow (be it an auto or photo), but in my experience, it's usually our own faults (grower error - or lack of understanding)

Also, with regards to money hungry breeders, while i have had no experience with these - There is just another reason to be a part of the AFN community, it takes no time at all to find reputable breeders to buy seeds from.

Hehe, that turned into a bit of a "go-AFN!" rant ^_^

I like it!

I've been growing autos for over 5 years now and have seen vast improvements in both potency and stability. When you consider that many photos strains have about 30 years of breeding, compared to about 6 for autos, I think things will continue to improve. One of the issues with auto stability is the vast number of phenotypes it displays in the wild, 17 according to Robert Connell Clark in his book, HASHISH!. That has made the job of stabilization a lot harder as the odd phenos still do pop up. Give autos another 5 years and I expect they will be right up there with the best photo strains for potency and stability.

Thanks for all the replies everyone!
