Indoor Auto's So Inconsistent

Ok so I've been growing autos for a little over a year and one thing that been a little frustrating is just how much of a hit or miss auto can be phenotype wise. I've had some nice grows yielding about 25-45g per plant then ive had grows where plants gave me 2-5g a plant! Yeah 2-5 freaking dried grams! I've grown all mostly the same way, i just get crazy phenotype variations i guess.

What are some of the most consistent strains out there?

I was experiencing the same thing as you, Maxi gom was probably the most stable that i have grown. But that is just in my experience, For me i need much bigger yeilds since space isn't an issue, so i have switched completely to photos. I have seen people grow autos that are comparable if not better then some photos, but that is experience.

Compared to photo strains, autos are still relatively new. Serious photo breeding has been going on since the mid 70s, where autos only the past 5-6 years. Robert Connell Clarke, in his book HASHISH! says that 17 different phenotypes have been found in wild ruderalis. So far the breeders have bred out all of them but about 3, the large bushy one, the smaller with main cola and multiple side branches, and the runt with a single cola and little or no side branching. Given a few more years I believe the breeders will further define the pheno and we'll see more consistency. I know LBH is working on short and large phenos for his Sour Diesel Haze, and Stitch is working on a new, more stable version of Mi5.

I've found LBH's SDH short pheno to be very consistent. Also the original Diesel Ryder. Mossy's Dragons would be another.

Some of the autos have, and were developed for tight pheno and I remember 60 Day Wonder from the mid 80's. It has not been until more recent times that we see new directions in autoflowers and some of the cutting edge products have yet to be subjected to years of selective breeding to isolate a given pheno. Look to short sea of green strains made for the professionals for that kind of consistency.
