Hello everyone! I'm new to AFN and I've gone over lots of forums and tips from this site and people so I figured it's time to join! I've had a small auto grow before with cfl but I stepped up this time and got the metal halide/hps 400 setup. Hoping for more yield and much better quality! My next grow will start in about a week ish maybe 10 days. They just shipped from AutoSeeds and it's the Candy Kush! My first was G13 diesel auto. Was good but nothing special.

SO now to the annoying part. The past couple weeks have been irritating as germinating has been going good.. Popping them into 24 hrs light then waiting and keeping moist in jiffy peats. Never had a problem but now 4 have died without even continuing root growth ( noticed a few days after each that the root never grew but had a small sprout.. Turned purple on edges of stem and then fell over. What am I doing wrong?? All constructive Critism will be great and I'll turn this into a full journal once the beans arrive! Looking forward to the auto candy kush. So let's hear it!! Thanks in advance everyone

Welcome to the AFN family RKJ!

Sorry to hear about your seedlings! I have not been growing very long myself, but it sounds like it may be a dampening off issue by keeping your seedlings too wet. I'm not positive by any means, but someone with way more experience/knowledge than I have will be a long shortly to let you know for sure.

What are your temps at?

Looking forward to watching your grow, I know that you will do great !

Hey man thanks for the reply. Not sure on the temps just under a couple 23 watt 6500k but pretty close. I did keep the peats pretty moist. But root rot definatly seems possible. Should I keep water at the bottom of a dish with the peats to keep them moist maybe?

:smokeit: RKJ- Welcome to AFN bro'! Sorry to hear about the seed prob's :Stones slap: ...Okay, I've not used the peat pots myself, and some folks swear by them, others have prob's,.... first let me ask, are they browning out at the base? If so, Stickman has the right call- rot! Overly moist conditions (peat can be very absorbent, sometimes to smothering), often, but not always, combined with cool temps can promote this.... definitely don't keep them in standing water! What's the light source they're under? CFL's? Both give off heat, (halides are hot!), so temps should be okay (good range is upper 70's - low 80's, but warm room temps have worked just fine for me)... I would change my technique for germ'ing, and see if that does the trick; sometimes the seeds themselves aren't very good, and fail soon after germ'ing, if they do at all... What are you growing in? If it's soil, it needs to be a mild type made for seedlings, as to rich of soil will fry them!.... I'm a big fan of the paper towel method: cut a piece off, say an inch per seed wide, with enough to fold a couple times over so you have a 2-3 layers top and bottom; saturate with good water (no chlorine), place on small plate or something, and tuck the seed(s) in the center layer and fold over; cover it so it's dark in there, and place it some place warm and dark; first crack should happen within 1-3 days, usually sometimes longer.... check after 1 day by gently lifting up the top layer; when you see about 1/4" or so of root emerging, they're ready for planting direct to soil; use tweezers/forceps to pick them up carefully by the shell; make about a 1/2" deep hole in soil, and place them root down as best you can, them cover up... 2-3 days they should break surface... Try this and let us know how it worked!

So im using normal germ styles, dropping in water letting it sink, or papertowel, or both. (ive done this a while just outdoors im VERY new to indoor as i feel its MUCH more difficult already haha) The last batch i DO belive was soil rot, yes. I have been using just cfls for the first week to get roots to start up, i do have a dimmable 400 watt metal halide, where i keep temps at 81 and humidity at 45. Pretty sure the problem was me keeping the peats a little too moist. I will be growing in soil. I bought two big bags of non fertalized potting soil, has lots of bone meal, crab meal, fish meal, worm castings, all that good stuff, mixed it with another batch of the same stuff but more worm castings, and mixed in perlite. its a good fluffy mixture lots of draining. Havent used it tho hah! Cant wait to use it. The seeds i have been using before were all from attitude and the last couple tries were the freebes (might be the problem haha) BUT the candy kush is on its way and its from autoseeds, so lets see how these work. Ill give everything you said a try and im sure things will turn around onces these new beans come in! Thank you so much for the tips bro!

ALSO i have a 2x2x5 grow tent. This grow will be a SCROG, anyone know where i can get a couple 3gallon buckets so i can save space but grow all 3 of my autos at once? This candy kush is getting me excited. they have officially shipped from attitude.

Thanks man! im pretty excited to be here with everyone. also.. yeah the candy kush is definatly sounding pretty tasty right? ill have full pics of everything as this gets moving along.

Welcome KJ! I have an Auto Candy Kush thats 6 weeks old right now and its looking like the end product will indeed be delicious! Definitely post up some pics and stuff as you go along and I will def try and pass along any lessons learned that I can. Also, feel free to check out my journal, I got a bunch of pics and stuff like that, here is the link:

https://www.autoflower.org/f44/blue-amnesia-candy-kush-ms0006-led-smartpot-airpot-27543.html

Also, I've had pretty much a 100% success rate with germination (though thats only with 4 seeds so far) and I find the easiest method is just to soak the seed(s) in tap water for 24-48 hours or until the tap root shows and then plant directly into the final pot you will be growing them in. I also don't worry about 24 hour light, I just start straight off the bat with the 20/4 light schedule.

Best of luck and let me/us know if you have any questions!

Thanks man! Im going to check out your journal after this! I have steereed away (personally) from directly into the final pot from seed cus it takes much longer for seed to grow root system i feel like, so it delays it alot... you know? I could be wrong tho of course.

Hey RKJ
(ive done this a while just outdoors im VERY new to indoor as i feel its MUCH more difficult already haha)

Yea, I found growing Photos outdoors is much, much easier than growing Autos indoors.

It sounds like you have a handle on it now.

Very excited to see your grow! Keep us posted.
