What's the thinking behind adding black treacle to water for plants? Does it have any basis in fact? Why that and not other sugars? and if I do add it what difference does it make and how much do I add per gallon?
Enough questions already but any edge I can give my plants I take!

it provides carbohydrates to the microlife in organics to give them a food source plus theres trace minerals a 1/4-1/2 tsp per gallon in flower up to once a week

It seems ok. I'm going to be using black treacle ;

"Treacle is the generic name for any syrup made during the refining of sugar cane. Therefore, theoretically, Treacle, Black Treacle, Molasses, Golden Syrup and Blackstrap are all treacles.

In practice however, there is a technical difference between 'treacle' and 'Molasses' in that molasses is obtained from the drainings of raw sugar during the refining process and treacle is made from the syrup obtained from the sugar."

In comparing the nutritional information of the molasses vs. the Treacle, the molasses is slightly higher in Sodium but the difference is negligible .166 vs .1 g.
Molasses is also slightly higher in sugars but again minimally so 79 g vs. 64 g for Treacle.

The Treacle appears to contain slightly higher levels of Calcium and Iron with molasses having possible edge in Magnesium.

For a safe quantity maybe 1/2 or 1 teaspoon per 5 litres of water.
