Hi guys

I've got a white budbox tent and I've noticed this white powder appearing around power cables in the room. The power cables create a magnetic field around them when a current is passed through them, thus attracting any particles to them in the air. Does this look like off gassing to you? It's also all over the fan blades. I know you get some dust stuck to fan blades but the fact it's pure white points to the tent leaching some how?

I also had a terrible yield. I thought I had severe mg or nitrogen deficiencies (leaves went yellow fast) and they did not recover from any treatments, it just got worse.

Thanks for any advice.

It will put the minerals in the water all over the place in the form of white powder. It took me a while to figure it out. I had this one user that used a cool mist humidifier in his office. He went through 1 and a half computers before I figured it out. He ran that thing everyday all day so when I open the computer to see what was going on the inside was covered in white dust, it was everywhere but concentrated in the air paths. There was so much it shorted out the "motherboard"! I make him use distilled water and have not had that issue for a few years now.
The dust looked just like that. So a cool mist widget in a confined area. I guess I should specify an ULTRASONIC cool mist humidifier, the evaporation type don't do this I am fairly sure. If you think about it the ultrasonic transducer is probably sending microscopic particulates in those tiny water droplets in the mist.

Hi Willie, first off, thankyou for your message and thanks Son Of Hobbes for tagging him!

Yes I added a single plate ultrasonic cool mist humidifier to the room a few weeks in!
The tap water ph is quite high, around 8.6ph if that makes any difference?

The white powder deposits that are left around the cables, could this be linked the to yellowing of leaves that occurred, for example it's landing on the leaves and stopping photosynthesis, or creating a deficiency? The whole plant went yellow pretty fast and i was left with really spongey colas apposed to normal hard ones.

Cheers guys!!! Much love

Thank you! I've been having the same issue and you nailed it! Will switch to distilled

@Kronus and @Nic how cool is that! I am totally psyched that this was the answer for you guys!!

I was going to say the exact same thing you did. Also, it does not happen with evaporative humidifiers. The ions stay in the sponge. That's why they have to be replaced. On that note, I am expirementing with soaking the used sponges in weak citric acid to chelate out the calcium. I have a feeling it wont be TOO effective, in that I think it will take a lot of solution changes and a good amount of time to do anything, but it's still cheaper than buying new ones once a week. Using distilled water is an option, but given that I go through two gallons a day in my humidifier, that's just not going to happen.
