Have t5 dual bulb. Was away this weekend and think set it too close to plants? Was 3 or so inches at the closest.

Happy Monday, I am a noob so make sure you listen to the non noobs here but meanwhile just fill out the info sheet and the doctor will have better idea what he/she's working with. I'm on my first auto grow, but that first set leaves looks bizarre like mine are a single leaf those look different. Very cool,
Regarding testing tools really depends on your budget, do you have a local shop you can go to. My local shop sold me on my ph Pen. It's a blue Lab pen, they have a dual kit for testing ph and testing quality of water. Regarding your soil depends on what it is. Pro mix with no nutes I use Roots Organics soil...was little too hot for my seedlings but they powered through and IMO they nutes helped them grow some strong stems and they are reaching the sides of the 3 gallon pots almost its only 15 days (diameter if the pot). Again IMO you can get by on any grow with out all these expensive tools what not but are nice to have. Troll this site, ask tons of questions that's what I do. Good luck with everything.

you can test run off with this formula, it'll get you close. I suggest reading this for a full understanding.

Rough Calculation Guide:

Here's some good info on ph.....
If your runoff pH is higher than your starting pH, use this equation to determine your soil pH:*
Soil pH = Runoff pH + Difference

If your runoff pH is lower than your starting pH, us this equation:
Soil pH = Runoff pH - Difference.

For example, say your the starting pH of your solution before it goes in is 6.5 and the pH of your runoff is 7.0. The difference is +0.5, so using the above equation:
Soil pH = 7.0 + 0.5*
Soil pH = 7.5

If your starting pH is 6.5 and your runoff is 6.0, your difference is -0.5 and using the above equation:
Soil pH = 6.0 - 0.5
Soil pH = 5.5
