Hi everybody, so Ive been dreaming up my next grow and im almost sure im going to use coco, however PH has always annoyed me with hydroponics. When I was doing aquaponics i learned that it is commom practice to just put a large chunk of calcium carbonate in the res and not worry about PH at all.
The nitrification process produces nitric acid driving ph down and the calcium carbonate starts reacting/disolving at a Ph lower than 6 so your ph stays around 6, not perfect but stable.
why dont coco growers just mix coco with cal carb or dump a bunch in the res and move on?
please explain to me why this wont work, I assume there is a reason coco growers dont do this and I would very much like to understand,
thanks
EDIT: assuming my tap water has a PH of less than 6 should work a treat...right?
