I have a small 2x2x5.5 tent and i use 6 cfls. Keep in mind i only grow for personal use. So i only have a max of 3 plants at a time. The downside of using a cfl setup is that they have very poor penetration. However if you only have a few plants its much cheaper then the other options that are out there.
You can get light socket adapters that you plug into a surge bar and get yourself some cfl bulbs. The adapters are 2.50 each. i spent 30 on a high end surge bar(just for safety) i have been using the same setup for 4 grows now with no problems at all and it only cost me about 40 bucks to setup up.
Plz remember tho, if your growing several plants in a small area you'll need more cfls and it would be better to go with a stronger type.
