The big issue is the LM80 report. They basically stated that V3 thru V6 used fabricated data. They just made up most of it. So the L90/L70 numbers are fantasy. Sure initial performance looks good but there's no data to back up long-term performance. This is especially important for Energy STAR and DLC qualified products. All those fixtures will need to requalified. DLC for horticulture is right around the corner.

This is especially troublesome because Citizen is a major brand in the industry. It would be interesting to see what methods the regulratory bodies will take knowing this news.

Intresting indeed!

Having just bought 8 citizen 1812s, can you elaborate more on what this might mean? Could they be fine? They certainly outperform my old blurples, anyway.

Please note that EPA (US Environmental Protection Agency) has suspended the recognition of Citizen Electronics Laboratory for Energy Star testing. The details is as below. Please communicate with the team and the customers appropriately.

“Product tests based on Citizen Electronics Laboratory data will no longer be accepted for new ENERGY STAR product certifications.” This is the beginning..
Dear ENERGY STAR Lighting/Fan Partner:

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recognition of Citizen Electronics Laboratory (Fujiyoshidashi, Japan) for purposes of ENERGY STAR testing is currently suspended. As a result, product tests based on Citizen Electronics Laboratory data will no longer be accepted for new ENERGY STAR product certifications. If your organization has lighting products in the certification queue relying on LM-80 testing from this lab, you may elect to certify products with product level testing. For luminaires, this will require life testing on the luminaire usingoption 2to demonstrate lumen and color maintenance, and for lamps, testing to 6,000 hours without an option for early initial certification.

If you have questions, please contact Eamon Monahan atMonahan.Eamon@epa.gov.

Citizen provided another LM80 report lately on Feb 20 even after their LM80 lab has been suspended as of Feb. 14… See below PJLA Lab – suspension of Citizen LM80 as of Feb. 14, 2018
