I have seen where people will grow in say a 16 oz cup and then put the cup 1/2 or a 1/4 way in the soil of the bigger pot.i believe they must cut the bottom out of the cup and just grow it thru into the bigger pot.my question is does this produce a better grow is it allowing the roots to spread farther..mainly does it work and what is it doing.

Roddo i have ever done it , :smokebuds:...but i just received some reg. auto and i was going to use the Tier Method to sex ....then transplant to finial pot...so im thinking like you more room... taller bigger plants..."My 2 cents"

thanks for the reply I understand now this is the tier method and was able to find some posts about it..if anybody has any tips or results please chime in.

I think people mainly use tiering for easier transplanting so they don't stress the roots or plant as much.

Honestly i haven't seen any difference between plants i've tiered and plants i just pop the whole root ball into the soil

It's true the cups help when sexing and transferring to pots during that period. I use them because I grow with air-pots. I find it helps with watering by keeping the water going directly to the roots and not running out the sides.

I first heard of the tiered method from FD in this guide he wrote and it explains the potential benefits. Mainly that it helps prevent having to transplant and allows for greater vertical room for the taproot to drop, giving you generally larger sized plants.

hello mississ when I did search tier method here and your post showed up.i have to say very impressive grows and I saw how you use the tier..i believe on my next grow I am going to give this a try on 1-plant.i do believe it is worth a try and see if it is something I may like doing
