One thing that drives me nuts is visible wires. I'm way into my grow op being as stealthy as possible. There's no pressing need for it in my situation, I do it out of principle, and stress reduction.
I'm a fairly new homeowner, so I've been doing a lot of "grand tours" and every dude wants to check out the basement. Nothing makes me antsy like my dad looking at my wiring and structural stuff while standing next to my grow box. Up until now I've had a very long extension chord powering my op because I have one outlet in my basement, and it's not in an inconspicuous area.
I'm in the middle of a rennovation so I thought why not run a dedicated 20 amp line with a kill switch to my grow box. I'm not suggesting an un-handy person do this on their own because it is electricity. But if you're like me, and confident you can do it safely and to code go for it.
I had an empty 20 amp breaker, ran 12 gauge Romex to a double gang box for an outlet and a switch and followed the wiring diagram in my home improvement book. Works great and looks natural among my other household wire paths. Probably cost about $40. I love the switch! Now if I have surprise guests or am stirring up construction dust it's easy to power down (don't run your fans with spackle dust in the air it will stick, I learned the hard way).
While on the subject of wiring, I see a lot of half assed rigs, tangled wires on floors, lights dangling from their plugs, just messy unorganized grow rooms on this site. Growing the best weed you can means starting with a SAFE, clean, well built and organized environment. It gets annoying dealing with messy equipment in a small space with big sticky plants. My box is a DIY armoire and I took a lot of pride in building it. My only concern is the plants because my environment is tight. I think I got inspired by breaking bad, haha.
Safety first don't be a " grow-op in residence causes fire " headline.
