Grow Mediums Do you need the hole on the lid of the reservoir?

Why is there a hole at the top of the autopots reservoir? I read that you do not want light to get in the reservoir. I would not like to have the hole on the lid of the reservoir. Do you need the hole or would it be good to put something over the hole on the reservoir on there?

Some people use air pumps in their res. That's where the hoses would go. Regular room light is fine. If it concerns you, just put a piece of paper over it.
