So this morning I prepared my site in a somewhat scattered forest. And I know there will be problems with

deer and raccoons and such but I was hoping that I would only run into the problems when the mary jane is

growing and I would be prepared then. (not sure if that made any sense)

Anyway... when I came to my spot ( to plant my seedlings) all of the holes that I prepared where dug up and all I put in it was a 50/50

of coco coir and the native soil. I originally was going to piss near my plants and scatter some mothballs around

maybe some pepper. Once the plants actually got started

Now I was wondering if I should even put Coco in my mix and just use the native soil and hope for the best?
Any advice?

Also I wont be able to use any chicken wire or fencing for stealth reasons.

Some animals are drawn to freshly turned earth. They seem to know that it's softer and easier to dig in to find worms, grubs, etc. I suspect that's probably what happened to your holes. While urine does work to keep the critters away it doesn't last long, especially if there has been some rain. I'd suggest you go with a commercial repellent. I've had very good success with Liquid Fence Deer and Rabbit Repellent. Around here I get it at Tractor Supply.

Good to know. I've had the same thing happen 2 days in a row so far. Assumed it was something looking for worms or grubs as the plants weren't disturbed at all just dug up around them. Marked my territory yesterday, but it rained last night. Gonna put chicken wire around them this afternoon. Was looking at that liquid fence stuff but wasn't sure how well it worked. Gotta go to tractor supply today anyway so might just grab it.

Thanks for the advice Muddy and NEimmaculates imma go out and buy that liquid fence tonight. Hope for the Best!

If you cut the bottom out of a bucket, and plant the whole bucket in the whole, it could keep critters from moving it around too. I had a problem with rats once, I had to put coffee cans around the plants until they were about two feet tall, they stopped eating my stalks long enough for the traps and scents to work.

Also, if you use fish emulsion type fertilizers, that could attract raccoons, and such.

Hope it helps.

I get my buckets aound here, camoflauge ones, at my Local Tractor Supply store also, (thanks muddy). They were three dollars apeice.

Good Luck

Get free buckets at grocery store bakeries. Ask for frosting buckets, most places give them away, the wal-mart here charges a buck each

Not half bad Idea guys! I might just try that one too if i can get my hands on some camo or dark green buckets. LETS GO PACERS! im tired of the Heat

Mine are in swamp tubes. Buckets weren't moved just soil dug up. They just hopped on in and rifled through. Must of been too good to pass up. Lol. Put up some chicken wire and the problem has ceased.
