For small net pots it's not worth the hassle of dealing with a broken pot and the roots will burst through for sure. However by using a full size pot with only holes at the bottom, that drains into another enclosing pot with room for a lot more roots, I find that a quick shake dislodges the entire plant and by dumping everything into a bathtub all the expanded clay floats to the top and the crud sinks to the bottom. So it's 100% pot and 100% substrate recovery and reuse.
