i haven't got a clue dude, i'm no good at working stuff out. i bought the fan and filter together and with it being a small-ish tent i just assumed it would work. turns out the filter is rated 500m3h and the fan is 250m3h maximum. without the filter or anything. i'm hoping the bigger fan will do the trick but i'm worried in case the reducer makes it sound like a jet engine, even though the reduced bit will only be about 6" long. i'll be venting through 6" soundproof ducting.

i wouldn't use a fan that pumps more than the filter can take. you might get smell leakage. but from what i can gather, the filter reduces the power of your fan by 25% and then the amount of ducting you use will reduce it also.

If you go for the second one, it will be just fine, the first one is really a tiny one.

Since fan running on full power is very loud and you need very little air exchange when your plants are small, speed control is the first thing you might miss soon, if you do not buy it now (comes separately or built in fans).

You put your exhaust system on the highest point in the tent and you suck air inside from bottom holes on the opposite side. I do not use intake fan, I just put aluminium ducting through the tent hole to keep it widely open. 125 mm on the exhaust side and 300 mm on the intake side which is passive. That is OK, because it makes tent under lower pressure as around so no smelly air comes from it other way as filtered. This way you make good circulation of air outside tent to if you tent is set in smaller room. If smell is concern, cheap carbon filters might not do the job, especially when humidity is very high.

Alright mate, just thought I'd post a quick update. I replaced the 5" systemair fan with a 6" manrose one. Used a plastic reducer on one end of the fan and a small piece of 5" duct to connect them. It's venting through 6" ducting. The fan is rated 500 metres cubed per hour and it keeps the temp between 30 and 31. I may need to go bigger.

New Set Up

Thanks for the advice everyone. I ended up going with a Ruck Fan 125L with a Prima Klima Filter. I assume the sides of my tent being sucked inwards is the negative air pressure I was looking for.

Its quite a bit bigger than I had mentally pictured, but its doing the job.:thumbs:
