Hi all,
I'm thinking of trying to germinate a seed in the pot it's going to grow in and looking for advice, helpful comments or a general discussion. I'm using Promix HP Ready for my medium, mixed with grow dots and dynomyco, along with a humidity dome with vent. This is a 5 gal. bag in a 2x4 with MH FC4000 Evo set for about 80F-85F or so. Should I do some type of prep on the seed or anything I should do before laying her in the pot ? Should I use a jiffy and place that inside ? Any help/ advice is appreciated.

Thanks all.

I direct sow my seeds. No soaking no h202 or anything like that.

What I do is saturate my medium with regular water a day before I plan on dropping the beans. Then plant like normal ¼-½ inch deep, lightly cover, then I just keep the surface moist with a spray bottle. Just enough to keep it damp and I use my light to keep things warm. I'll put it 10-12inches above my bags at 10-20% power 24/7 until they pop up then its to a normal light cycle. I have yet to have a failed germination.

For some numbers I try to keep the temps between 75-80 and the humidity around 70%.

Humidity in the tent and room is irrelevant to seeds under the surface.

As you describe, keeping a good level of media moisture/dampness, good aeration/drainage (such as adding perlite or maybe Promix HP is good at this already?) and warm temps, such as I'd aim for mid-80s, works well. Once sprouted, breaking the surface, then higher humidity is optimal.

Yeah the Promix is very light & fluffy and it has perlite in it. Very airy, I normally watered every couple of days on my last grow using it. So, if I'm hearing right: water the soil, soak the seed, next day drop seed about 1/4 down, light cover, then heat things up to about 80F or so and throw a dome over it. I can increase humidity if needed.

Thanks all, I really appreciate the input.
