Hello all. I have a 11 day grow using roots organic soil with lime added. I'm seeing a few gnat type creatures. Not sure if I need to do anything. I have 2 (10) day old seedlings and 1 (3) day old. I have some neem oil, i am trying to keep organic...but don't know if I should or need to use it for these things. Posting pic of them in the water bowl. Let me know if you need a larger pic.

Fungus gnats are probably the most common pest we see on our plants. Sometimes they are in the soil that we use, especially if the store was keeping it outdoors. Get yourself some old fashioned fly paper and hang it in your grow area. They will stick to it.

sand on top of soil, panty hose on bottom.the larvae will eat the shit out ur roots make ur plant look like it has a deficiency.trust me

i second faded there you will have to do something because if you don't the problem will just grow and they will literally eat your babies alive.......neem oil is a good aid but i do not believe it will take care of the problem completely.....and a thin layer of sand on top as faded has suggested is really the only thing that has worked for me in the past I wish the best to you bud

dude mine got so bad the water would barely drain through my soil and little maggot wormies were break dancing back stroking and shit, they thought it was a frickin swimming hole.so I put in a nice sandy beach.them suckers flew around a couple days all pissed off and realized this som bitch put the eviction smack down

a product called 'mosquito dunks' used in conjunction with a layer of sand and sticky fly paper seem to have worked best for me, but it has not fixed the problem completely.

mmm yes gnats can be quite the problem I have even heard of growers baking there soil before using it to make sure nothing survives.......I have used this method and it does work but over time it gets really tiring and this also goes back to how clean your grow area is and things like that as well yes sometimes there is nothing in your control you can do about a infestation but there are alot of techniques out there that will help your babies survive and make it through this but sad to say this is gonna be no quick fix

dude im tellin ya the gnats cant penetrate the soil through the sand to lay eggs, and the larvae in the soil cant escape through the panty hose once they morph into gnats.life cycle terminated in like 3 days

you can use things such as Gnatrol, the dunks that were mentioned, strong Peppermint tea(not hot LOL).there are a few other home recipes you can use as well.yellow sticky traps, fly paper like Muddy mentioned, all kinds of things can be used to control and kill them in the soil.Sand works well to,just takes a bit of time is all.Gnatrol is prolly the fastest way imho.pretty cheap too.for about 6 bucks(thats with shipping)you can get a small pack of it and drench your soil and that'll take care of it.same as the dunks.a bit quicker than sand.although sand it good just take a bit of time if its bad.but if its bad,Gnatrol and/or dunks are your best bet.best of luck and growing Karma for ya bud.:pass:

haha wow i forgot about gnatrol lol shame on me i am going to go sit in a corner and read lol
