Hello Everyone,

I am running a indoor/outdoor grow this summer. I plan to do about 30 days grow on a cabinet under leds and flowering outside. You can see my journal here: https://www.autoflower.org/f6/2014-...nt-pineapple-express-critical-jack-31644.html

However, all the flowering will be done outdoor. The thing is that at the balcony during the day temperatures here on summer aren't too bad (18-26c) however, I don't know if is because the humidity or what but at night temps are usually bellow the 10c (around 4-7 good days are 9c).

Do you think that the plants will do ok with the daytime temperatures or should I be concern about the cold nights?

I have read many posts here and everywhere about how temps lower than 10c stops growth but I am unsure if this refers to the average temperature or to the absolute minimum.

Thanks! :tiphat:

I experienced slow germination of seeds and very slow growth of seedlings when temps at night went under 20c. 10c might be too low in my view.

Thanks Evo for your quick response. To be fair the germination won't be a problem. I am letting them germinate and grow under optimum conditions, with the right temp and humidity. So until they are on their 5th week they will be happy :D

However, when they reach that point is when I am taking them out with those low temps. So I wonder if they being strong from their initial grow will stand the low temps at night.

Mature plants IMO will be fine. Seedlings and young plants won't fair so well but if you're starting them indoors you'll be fine. Just harden them off by taking them outside to get used to there new environment and all should be fine.

Thanks man, that is a relieve. Any suggestions about how should I go about the hardening?

I just bring em outside for a little longer each day till I feel they're strong enough to be out all the time. They need time to get used to the sun and wind and all the other environmental factors that mother nature has to offer. Indoors we have nicely tailored environments to keep our girls, an boys, happy. Outdoors they have to be able to take whatever nature throws at them, so ease em into it and they'll be just fine!!
Good luck

I stick mine in a cardboard box, it insulates them and give a little extra protection compared with outside the box. (it also contains smells for a careful venting in the AM) You cannot beat all the UV the sun provides during flowering. The downside is that you rely on nature and the sun actually coming out. But to be fair I have grown in really crap summers and I still got high. As long as you have some potent genetics you will be fine. It is fortunate to have a carbon neutral grow (the plants probably expel a little oxygen in fact) but I understand why most people cannot of course. One day when it is legal worldwide (let's hope not too long) then we can all pay back some of our carbon footprints by growing our wonderful herb.

I may try that mate, is the smell a big issue when outdoors? whats the time when most noticeable it is?

The smell outside is evident but not a major issue beyond 2 meters from a couple of smallish plants in open air in my own experience. The moment a plant is in an air tight environment of any kind, box or room, the smell builds massively. The warmer the air the more they smell.

Some strains are worse than others for smelling. Diesel, Kush's smell a lot and something like Northern lights smells less. It all smells worst at the last 2-3 weeks of flower when there is the largest amount of resin on the plants.

You need to make a judgement and also assume within that judgement that you have got used to the smell yourself somewhat.
