Has anyone used KIS organic soils successfully?

Using water only through the grow?

I have not but I’m getting ready to do a run with some very similar soil that the owner of KIS helped me build. I couldn’t afford the shipping on the volume of soil I wanted; so I bought the bulk ingredients, mostly from KIS and BuildASoil, and Tad helped me with the quantities of each. I included nearly all the ingredients listed on his bags of biochar water-only. I’m going to try and do a run with nothing but water and compost tea and microbes.

I’m subbed to see if any one has done it with the actual bagged mix. I know that their soil mix is based on Tim Wilson’s soil recipe and Coot’s recipe and both of them grew with water only with great success. So, I don’t know why you couldn’t with the KIS soil. Great topic, though!

KIS along with a host of others will grow you a plant all the way till harvest. What some fail to realize is that the colors tend to fade in a few weeks of it flowering so a cpl teas and/or a top dressing is usually all thats needed for larger plants.but smaller to medium plants less will be needed IF it does in fact need anything. some do for larger plants.and fewer need anything if theyre smaller.Photo or auto. photos youd wanna add a top dressing though,.I have used this mix for years now and love it through n through.I have had few issues with this mix.when I do its usually a large plant in a small container or a longer going photo period plant.

This is Tad here with KIS. Eyes on Fire makes a great point about these types of soils. If you want to go the entire grow with just water then you have to be sure to give it a large enough container, as we can only fit so many nutrients into so much soil. I typically say a 7 gal container is the minimum size for a full cycle plant on a regular cycle. I haven't done enough work with autos to determine a minimum size. There's a lot of variables though when looking at nutrient uptake such as lighting, temperature, humidity, watering, etc....which can influence how quickly the plant grows and how long the nutrients "last."

Thank you, that helps to understand things much better.

@Mr green I would like to point out however, that in my runs of several soils as a water only system @KIS and @Biotabs F69 have gotten the closest to a full harvest with a water only line IMO. But with a few fairly minor tweeks all is right with the world and you have a greener more lush flower/Plant(s) throughout the mid flower cycle lending to far more badassery in the flower department lol so get some Tea recipes and/or a decent bloom boost top dressing prepared when sowing so it has a little time(or before you sow beans ideally by a cpl weeks) to start breaking down.Watering with a dose of Mammoth does help it along over a few weeks.Happy harvesting :D

Thank you Tad,Means a lot. Many fail to see that Nitrogen for the longer 2 month game needs to be upped with flower foods. I usually see 5 gallon really do well if its deep and well packed do the best all around with medium large and small strains(small is overkill in 5 ,sooo) but little extra feeding tends to be required or less is needed,Have a good'un.

Do you have a bloom boost top dress recipe that you recommend?

well one I use if I dont have many products to make a custom super batch like Im doing now actually. But Id take a few gallons of soil.and add like 1/2 cup bonemeal, kelp meal 1 cup.bloom and veg granules and water it in with mammoth to start the process and lend a little speed to it all.should do fine if you let it breakdown for a cpl weeks or more ideally. But if I were you I would buy a bloom top dressing from tea labs or build a soil.both have some good products.Havent use BAS top dressing. But tea labs if on point man. 45 wuit shipping for 1CF and well worth it

Thank you for all the info! When ever my next grow happens I'll give kis a try and keep some bloom top dressing around incase it's needed, based on info here autos in a 5 gallon should get far enough to only need a bloom top dressing if at all needed.

No worries,my pleasure. Also a bit of Langbenite might help for the flower.but you could also make small amounts of a flat flower and low low Nitrogen and like a medium or high Nitrogen for heavier fading and so on. just takes time and space really.and a decent back which I aint got LMAO
