Hey guys its getting cold where I live and the lowest my tent has previously gotten was 64 degrees. This morning i woke up and it was 55 degrees in my tent! I have some 4 week old plants as well as some newly sprouted plants, so I was wondering..can cold temps stunt your plants ? I know cold temps can make some purp show but are there any negative effects?? I put in a heater to raise temps but im curious to know how cold weather effects your plants since I live in Texas this is the first time I've had this problem thanks guys :D

I'd rectify the issue much like you have bro. It can stunt them a bit but if it's not consistent it may just set you back a day or two of growth. Ideally you don't want your "dark" temps to get any lower than 65. If it's too cold the plant won't just fall over and die, but it may stop or slow growth for a minute as it figures out what the hell is going on.

Yo thanks for commenting whatsgoodie2, ill try my best to keep things warm, it was 55 with the light on this morning so it will probably be way to cold with lights off. As of right now the temp is 64 degrees, ill try to get temps to the 70s though :cough:

Temps that cold will effect the plants ability to take up P. This will show on the plants by turning the stems purple/red. That may not stunt the plants but it will slow them down and it will impact your buds.

Thanks muddy, things have warmed up and the temp is now 75 degrees, hope not to much harm was done:shrug:

recently saw an example of the bud effected

a friend growing my auto vertigo's i made and have grown lots of ,,,,,,

no heat source whatsoever in the growing and surounding area , 12/12 (which ive done also with these seeds and they budded fine) and very cold during lights off (we are canadian) , there was literally no buds , it looked like there was , but come harvest time the plants were 90% leaf , so leafy infact that he/we are not even going to attempt to pick out any buds that might possibly be found and make bubble hash out of it all

the only explanation we could think of was the cold temps as we use EVERYTHING the same , my seeds from the same original seed stock , we go halvers on the bales of pro-mix and ferts

however , i have a room that drops to the mid 50's lights out during winter and havent noticed any ill effect with my photo stains grown there

peace

Thanks man that's real interesting I'd hate to have that happen, my low is usually about 66 but last night it was real cold and it dropped to 55 so ill be sure to keep a heater on at night to prevent that from happening again, right now its a steady 77
