Hello AFN,

How do you guys and gals measure your nutrients, as well as feeding your microgrows?
Do you guys actually mix in nutrients by the gallon measurement from the manufacturer's feeding charts / bottle directions? Or is it actually calculated down from how much water you are actually using?

For instance, the way I have been measuring it, is by using a 32 oz spray bottle, which is 1/4 of a gallon, and then if the bottle says to use only 1 teaspoon / tablespoon, I use 1/4 teaspoon or tablespoon mixed in the spray bottle, then I pH it. Afterwards, I just pour in enough until there are runoff.

Is it okay to be doing it that way? Or should I be mixing it in a full gallon of water with nutrients and only water enough until runoff? And if I do mix my nutrients by the gallon, is it safe to cap it, and then shake it every once in a while?

Currently it seems like the method I've been doing it, is not working so well.
I am in my 6th week from seed, and she looks really in bad shape. Her very bottom leaves turned yellow and dried out, so I did remove them. Now her leaves are starting to turn yellow from the bottom up.

They are growing in a space bucket, the container is a 1.2L tupperware which the bottom part is completely covered up so that way the roots do not get any light, the medium is FFOF, the nutrients are Roots Organics Grow, and Bloom, GH Cal/Mag, and a Roots Organics Surge 2-2-0.5, which has a different N-P-K that's stated from the original website 0.75-0.1-0.5. This is also my very first grow.

I water to runoff about twice per grow w/ the first one being at about 3-4 weeks assuming the plant is large enough to drink a potful of water. You probably water about a quart at a time which means you divide all measurements by 1/4 before reducing strength slightly. You've gotten a lot further than a lot of first grows ... looks to me like you might be killing it w/ kindness (too much food and drink) ... Organic nutes have to be used w/in 24 hrs of mixing or they go bad ...

That looks more like a soil pH issue than anything else. FFOF can be very low right out of the bag, sometimes as low as 4.5. Have you been pHing your feeds and capturing and testing the pH of your run off? If so, what are your readings?

I mix my nutes before I go to sleep, then feed her in the morning, and then throw the runoff away.
I have been feeding / watering her with a pH of 6.0-6.1, and my runoff reading is at a pH of 6.7.

Should I be watering her at a lower pH to drop it more significantly?

Thank you guys for the help.

PH seems OK I'd say look at the light green leaf its actually hungry and not over fed.

The little leaves are a bit darker green, and the slightly bigger ones are a bit lighter green.

Is this still a nutrient deficiency? I guess I'll just have to raise my dosage for my next feed.

You guys are the best. Thank you guys again for the information.

If you're feeding at 6 and getting run off of 6.7 then your actual soil pH is close to 7.4. Drop the pH of your feeds a bit lower, to around 5.7 and you should be okay.

Course it is. Sorry bout that went the wrong way.....

Thanks a bunch Muddy. I did not know anything about how the pH measurements compare with the soil and the runoff. When I check the pH, after I have mixed all the nutes up, the pH comes out to 5.8. I think I will feed my plants like that, and see how the pH comes out for the runoff.

What? PH? OK start from the start. To answer your question, your able to evaluate the PPM of your water. THIS is how you play with your nutes and know what your mix is. PH has nothing to do with adjusting your ppm. Now, ph ranges for soil from 6-7 say. Your plant absorbs different nutrients at different acidities. You may have a lock out. Which is when your ph is out of range, causing say what looks like a cal mag issue. (What muddy is saying)

That's how you adjust your NUTES.
