How to start seed/seedling with MC...This moms confused!

hi guys! I received my free bag of MC and I wanted to give it a little "test start" before I decide if I will use it in a true journal grow.

Question is (ARE!)....How do you start with this stuff? Do you just measure some in water, shake, PH, and that's it? It seems so simple, am I missing something?

what are the measurements (I actually prefer going by ppm, not a scale) for planted seeds, then new seedlings etc.... Is there just a simple little formula I can start out with?
Do you precharge coco with MC?...Do I need to add calcium?

I am going to probably germ in root riots then into final coco filled autopots..of course under @BigSm0 cobs.


Oh lord that is a lot of questions, I am so sorry...but I am rather excited to try this stuff and take a ride on the "MC train" everyone seems to be on, and I know you guys will help out a lady in distress!

I did go to the MC website and used calculator. Now for autos do I cut the grams they suggest in half to start?

Hi mom, Mass Dad here!
For me, the beauty of MC is the simplicity. If you read through the MC grow journals on here you'll find that MC encourages a laid back approach to growing.
Greenleaf has a feeding chart on their web site which is probably a bit aggressive for autos but it's a good starting point, they list grams, ec and ppm. In the grow that I'm finishing up now I started at about 2 gm/gal as seedlings and gradually worked up to 5ish gm/gal (when I started to get burnt tips) I then cut back to ~4.5 gm/gal to the end.

If you click the link in my sig you'll see that I set out to grow in true a masshole manner. I didn't ph my water once, paid n attention to temp or humidity and just fed MC and Bud Explosion. Maybe the plant would have turned out better if I were more anal about stuff but I'm pretty happy with the result. I'll probably chop toward the end of this week.

Oh now thats my kinda guy.....no ph, heck with temp and humidity, just water the thing and watch it grow. That is what I want to do but my OCD wont let me! HAHAAAA....
So REALLY....just mix it up and feed?....

Well you know me, I can’t stand calculators or schedules. I start my seeds in a shot glass of water with just a drop of Superthrive. If within 24 hours they pop I move then directly to their final home. If they don’t crack open I will use a paper towel just until they start to show a tail and then put them in their final home. If I was using straight coco I would precharge it with 100-200 ppm of calmag and then when I start feeding I usually start with close to 200 ppm of MC. After that I read my plants and give them what they are asking for. I have not tried the new formula yet but would happily try to run my autos at 600ppm and under.

It is wierd to look at one bag of mc and a bottle of calmag on my mixing station.
usually I have 10 bottles, cups, syringes, etc.
Already this is kind of cool

I’m gonna go ahead and let u know to check ph. When I’m at 2g/gallon I don’t have to ph it works out perfect. But as I get stronger it goes down so your water is different then the next guys so make sure u check your ph and adjust accordingly just make sure like any other u give it time to settle then check and adjust and more time to settle before checking again. It does hold ph once u set it so long as u don’t try doing it right away.

That’s a great chart I’ve found at 2 for precharge a couple strains didn’t like it so I backed down to 1.5 and haven’t seen an unhappy seedling yet. Again 2 was fine for 90%.

Thank you hon! I have a new PH meter on order and will calibrate it first thing when it gets here. How long do you let it sit before taking an "accurate" ph reading? Also, some say you can mix up a batch and leave it a week, is this true? I have NEVER had to use PH up...so I have none on hand. Guess I will be stealing the baking soda out of the fridge.
