Hello,
I have recently designed and will begin construction of the below system in the coming days with a grow to immediately follow. I have read a number of forums here and this site is full of information and I respect the wisdom of many members here, which is why I would like your thoughts and feedback on the system which I will be building. I am referring to it as a DWC Hybrid, but perhaps I am mistaken.
The system will consist of 3 tubes of 4" PVC each 20' long with holes cut for net pots. I plan to use a split feed system controlled by a valve as described below.
I will run a 1/2" feed line along the side of each PVC tube where there will be a 1/4" 2gph flag emitter at each site location for full top feed flow control for continuous feed. The 1/2" line will then elbow into its respective PVC tube (behind the dam) to drain back to the res. This will be the feeding system for when the plants are young with little to no roots protruding from the rock wool cubes that will be set in hydroton.
Once the plants have an established root system I will turn the valve and close each 1/2" feed line so that the pump now fills each PVC tube approximately half way and again the excess flows over a dam and drains back to the res.
The actual grow area is 4'x20' and there will be 5 1000W HPS lights each with a digital ballast all of which will be connected into a Helios 7 light control with a built in timer. Also, each light is responsible for a 4'x4' growing area each adjacent to make up the 4'x20' area. Each light will be connected via duct and connected to the inline fan. There are also 2 16" oscilating fans on opposite ends of the room as well.
The room itself is 9' x 24' x 6' high for 1,296 cuft. I plan to use a 6" in line fan moving 550cfm and a 6" x 18" carbon filter. The walls and ceiling will be covered in mylar. The room is also in the basement and has concrete for all surfaces (4 walls, ceiling, and floor) so it should be easy to maintain and control temp.
I plan to grow HeavyWeight Fast & Vast for the first grow and follow the guide that Muddy posted and has been tried and test over time.
If anyone has any thoughts or input I would welcome the thoughts. Once question that I have is regarding the continuous feed from the top, is it alright to let it run nonstop or should I put the top feed on a timer and feed for x minutes y times a day or can I let it run 24/7 at a slower rate as long as I am not blasting the plant?
