I've got a baggy in the freezer with a bunch of pucks, most from hash. There is a bunch of goodness in that bag!!!!

My question is pretty specific. Can I use my Ardent FX to decarb and infuse oil or coca butter in one step? What cycle would you use?

OR

Do I just put the pucks in and run the decarb cycle, then add the butter or oil and run the infuse cycle?

I make sludge with a Long soak ( days or weeks) in ethanol. I dries out to the nastiest stuff that looks just like the sluge in a really old motor that was not maintained well. I tastes bad by itself but it is as strong a full melt. I decarb it 2g + 2g cocoa butter for 27 min @252°F then add it to my melted chocolate. This is the important part add 5 or 6 drops of terpenes from your favorite strain or candy flavors. A buddy of mine loves the bubble gum terps?

Did it get heated at all durng the press? I think you would have to run the decarb then infuse cycle. I don't think running the decarb will hurt anything. Normal cycle should work. Just takes a while. Well, you know.

EDIT: I made oil the other morning and caught someone eating a piece of the leftover plant mash, then lying about all day complaining that it was a bit too strong! Well silly! You knew it was fully decarbed, infused, and saturated. Hahaha, ah I could not imaging having that feeling for several hours. It did remind me of when the kids were little and warning them not to eat the hot peppers, you won't like it. But, they do anyways and learn their lesson the hard way.

I know you luv yo sludge, but I've seen that 'stuff' when a friend made some. I couldn't try it, but I don't think I would. Did get my friend high AF, but Ewwwww! LOL!

I think I'll just run them like any other material I'm working to eventually infuse. I did the same with some hash with coca butter and made some very potent butter. I gave two sticks to my Vet buddy with the nerve pain. Helped with the pain, but made him a zombie. He's skurred of it! LOL!

When this nasty weather is gone, I think go get some MCT oil and try it for the first time.

For my very first batch of oil I thought an acceptable decarb was 250 F for 30 min.
That is true, but for IN-AIR not IN-OIL like I mistakenly did.
The batch was a failure.

There almost certainly exist proper in-oil decarb time/temps, but they will be radically different from in-air time/temps.
In-oil decarb would certainly be easier, and I'd love to know how, but I have not seen experimentally verified time/temps.

Until then I consider it too risky to decarb in-oil, and always decarb first in Lift/FX in air, then infuse in FX in oil.
(There is an in-oil method that watches for bubbles to stop in a 250 F oil bath)

My go-to method is to dry completely, decarb in Ardent Lift or FX, then infuse in FX.
Then into caps without straining.

I've also tried the MagicalButterMachine method and BrassNwood's popular GrassCityForums method, and the Ardent is a least as good as the others, although I'm still trying them all.

A related question if I may - do you puckers break them up for infusing, or just toss them is as is. I am inclined to break up although I am not sure how yet...

I clip the buds down into small pieces so that if we are infusing they are all submerged. I don't grind but clip or crush to fit. I also pour it into a french press to strain. Usually if you haven't clipped too much the screen is enough of a strainer.

Usually only make an ounce or two of oil at a time with 3.5g of dried buds. I've been using MCT oil as Ardents website claims it infuses very well and I can pick it up at the grocery store.

A plus is that the MCT is clear but comes out looking like olive oil. Pretty stealthy if it's left out on accident.

Because I leave the herb in the oil, I grind to fine powder after decarb.

Like most I save many ounces of pucks, slightly break them up no pulverizing and place into a 64 ounce Ball jar. Fill with coconut oil to just covering the broken up pucks. Place Ball Jar with lid into oven @ 240 degrees for two hours. When finished baking I Strain, usually in a grow tent with an exhaust filter for about 24 hours and then discard the plant material. Using the Ball Jar there is far less odor and using the tent warm environment and exhaust filter also helps immensely with odors and allowing the max amount of oil to seep out.
