I posted a similar post on a non-autoflower forum but am interested in the auto-specific expertise from this forum. I'm an indoor grower with several years experience and good results. I'm a PhD soil scientist and understand appropriate agricultural soils well. I'm getting licensed under Washington I502 for an outdoor grow in sunny central Washington. I'm using a drip irrigation system from a private well with fertigation injection and pH adjustment built into the drip system. My question for the forum is, what is an appropriate spacing between plants for an outdoor grow? I've attached an image of our layout below. My plan is to grow the primary plant (already have 200, 2-month old vegging (non-autos). This primary plant which will grow through the summer and harvest in fall is noted as "R" in the upper left hand corner. I'm planning so far on having 10' spacing between primary non-auto plants. On the margin of the primary non-auto plants I'd like to interplant autoflowers. These are noted as "A" on the grid. They would be spaced 3.3 ft. apart and I would look for a single harvest mid August.

Does this seem like reasonable spacing between plants? Again, I've never grown outdoors, other than maybe a dozen plants with minimal care and I've never grown autoflowers.

Any input is appreciated as we're going to be up and running soon. Thanks! millicent.jpg

depends, sativa or indica dominant plants? are you planning on topping and LSTing or just letting them run wild? Also if you're looking for a single harvest I assume you're going to start your autos later than your photo-periods.. If so I would relocate the planting of the autos to the western side where they will be able to receive more of the afternoon sun which is stronger than the early morning sun and which would be blocked out by your older photo plants if they were on the eastern side. but all in all 10'x10' is plenty of spacing for photo periods.. is every photo period going to be surrounded by 4 autos?

Welcome to the forum. Spacing for your autos will depend on what strains you decide to grow. Most dwarf auto strains will likely stay below about 24" in height and will spread to cover about 15 square inches. Larger, more sativa dominant strains, such as most of the Dutch Passion line, can get quite a bit bigger and can require 1.5 to 2 square feet per plant. Rather than planting them around your photo sensitive plants as you have indicated on your layout I would suggest planting them in a line along either the southern or western edge of your field. They will get more light and will not be blocked by your larger photo plants.

That's going to be some garden. Wish I could dedicate a half acre of my property to one like that.
