Is anyone familiar withhttp://www.dynamat.com/. My grow room is a closet in my utility room. I wish I could reduce the sound of the fan noise outside the door. These mats seem to be helpful "per the manufacturer."

I use Dynamat to dampen vintage turntables (Thorens/AR) and for tube amp vibration in custom builds. In those uses, it is phenomenal! It can deaden a vibrating transformer or motor so its inaudible.
That said, it is expensive and its basically tar mixed with stuff and covered with thick tinfoil. I don't know how having that in a "hot" room will go.. If you want to make the fan noise quieter outside the room, perhaps you could line the inside door with some (heat tolerant!) closed cell foam, like this stuff:

You want to make sure whatever you use doesn't "off-gas" nasty fumes. It's not good for any living thing, including you and your plants :) The link I gave is just for an example. There are foam distributors in most mid-sized cities, and you can often get acoustic foam from them on the cheap.

Do you just cover as much space in your room with those as you can? Those look cool :)

My trunk is lined with Dynamat extreme (I have (3) 12" subwoofers running at 400w a piece). It doesn't cut all of the vibration out but for a grow room I think would be more than adequate. As to what Waximus said I've never smelled any fumes and my trunk gets waaaaay hotter than any grow room. That being said it's expensive as hell and I'm sure there are cheaper alternatives for what you're trying to accomplish.

I would only put them on the wall "that your noise is coming out of" lolol Just medicated, and that was the only sentence CLOSE to what I mean.... lolol Like, if the door to your room is the thinnest part of the room, then lining the inside of the door would be a good choice. And you may not have to cover the whole wall.. In the recording studios I use, they put them every few feet, on the walls, so it doesn't completely deaden the room, just drops the echoes and squeals...
Albert, you make a great point on the heat in the trunk. I have seen dynamat used in car door panels, that leaked out of the cover material. It was like hair infused tar juice... think, "Wicked Nasty".. lolol

Dynamat and other products like it work more for stopping vibrations and rattling panels. Closed cell foam and mass loaded vinyl would be better for sound proofing.
