After reading a bunch of articles about how these substances are supposed to increase trichome/essential oil production, I'm pretty stoked to give them a go. I also read that a Artemisia tridetata produces huge amounts of methyl jasmonate when the leaves are damaged, so I bought some seeds for that, and I'm going to try growing that as a general house plant which I can then take into my tent, damage it, and see what sort of effects it has on my plants. I had read a study where certain plants simply downwind from Artemisia tridentata experienced significant growth changes.

On top of all that, I've read that the combination of the two substances has in some cases resulted in a 91% increase in trichome production. So what do you guys think? Have you ever used these? I was thinking I'd use the gibberellic acid towards last few weeks of flowering since it is known to increase internode length in some plants, and try making either a foliar spray from the methyl jasmonate or just letting a small quantity evaporate in the tent while the fan is off/super low to let concentrations build up.

Anyway, I'd love to hear what you guys have to say about them!

Where'd you get the MeJA from? I've done a lot of reading on it.. it triggers the plants defense mechanisms, one of which is trichome production... I've heard of gibberellic acid being used to reverse plants.. never heard of it being used to increase trichome production...

I saw two places, this one looks less reliable and seems a bit more expensive (assuming 1 ml is about equal to 1 gram)

than this place, which also seems much more legit.

http://www.sigmaaldrich.com/catalog/product/aldrich/392707?lang=en&region=us

it cost about 50 bucks shipped for 5ml.

EDIT:

Also, here's the article that talked about the interaction of gibberellin and jasmonic acid.

of course, it's for a different species, but there are some interesting threads on other forums about their combined use on cannabis.

I have sprayed it on MJ. You could turn a 10 inch plant into a 50 inch one with a single spray. It causes everything to stretch, not just a vertical stretch like insufficient light. This is why it is used on slow growing fruit trees, to get them bigger, faster. I was trying to feminise, it didn't work for me.

scratch that, Sigma-Aldrich cancelled my order and sent me this in an email:

We regret to inform you that the order you placed online with Sigma-Aldrich under temporary reference number: 74------ has been cancelled for one or more of the following reasons:

  • Failure to respond to our request for additional information.
  • The stated usage of the materials ordered and/or inadequate facilities to handle the ordered products.
  • Incorrect credit card details.
  • International Shipping and/or Billing.

So I just placed an order with Cayman Chemical, we'll see if they'll ship it to me!

Watch your back. There are those who take an interest in people trying to buy regulated products.

i don't think the substance itself is regulated, it's the companies that are regulated, however you're correct. in my description of my planned use for the acid, i said i was curious about increasing resin production in my hops vine lol. which i do in fact have growing!

EDIT:

I also think that was a generic, canned response.

Artemesia kills pot and most plants it's grown beside?
But it can kill Malaria, and save millions a yr if folks only knew..
It's easy to grow,

This is neat!!!!!
Keep us informed when you find it and how it works for ya

Well the artemesia I was planning to grow in another room and only put it in with my "recreational" plants for a day or two, but we'll see how everything pans out. The fact that it kills plants around it actually, in my mind, lends credence to my hypothesis, but we'll see!

Since no legit places will sell me methyl jasmonate, and I don't feel like dropping 155 bucks on a sheisty looking site that won't email me back, I'm going to buy some jasmine essential oil. I found this on ebay

http://www.ebay.com/itm/25ml-JASMIN...896?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2ea76d2e08

which claims the oil contains about 6.2% methyl jasmonate. So I have one of those oil heater things that are powered by a tea light, so I'm planning to turn the fans off for a while, dim the lights a little (you know, to set the mood), and give my plants a little aromatherapy. Your thoughts?
