So I posted this in my JEM thread but I wanted to make it easier for everyone to find here ya go

L3V3R'S soil mix
Everybody's been asking what my soil mix is so here it is.

I start out with my own personal compost from my kitchen and yard scraps as part of my base, but you can easily use some other type of compost as a base, black cow ia a good alternative to the compost part of the base too. or if your into it like i am I also use old leached out recycled composted soil from past grows Waste not.
DO NOT USE ANY THING WITH NUTES ALREADY IN IT AS YOUR BASE!!!
Here we go this is what you will need

Compost
Peat moss (or promix bx works fine)
Mexican bat guano
Indoesian bat guano
Jamacian bat quano(optional)
Peruvian seabird quano
Kelp meal
epsom salts
Earthworm castings
Greensand (optional)
Rock posphate (optional)
Crushed oyster shells
dolomite lime (optional)

Alright after you've aquired all these things
Lets make the base that we will work with which will be 10-gal of compost and 10-gal of peat (right now i'm using promix bx instead of peat and I like it)
that makes 20 gal to that I add 20 pounds of earthworm castings that is my main base.you can add more if you like

All of these things can be found at a local hydro shop or online. Sorry but this what i use :)

and to that I add
1 cup each of the quanos
2 cups kelp meal
1 cup green sand
1 cup rock phosphate
1 cup epsom salts
a whole bag of crushed oyster shells
and like 4 cups of dolomite lime (if your not using the lime double up on the oyster shells) These two even out the ph from using all the quano

I mix it all together getting a good and even mix and put it in a 30-50 gallon garbage can add a couple of gallons of water keep it uncovered but cover it when it rains it needs to cook for atleast a month but a month and a half would be better.
The cooking off is the most improtant part it breaks down the organic material into usable nutrients for the plant roots.

Then you can take that and mix it 50% mix 30%peat and 20%perlite the chunkier the better with the perlite this works awesome for seedlings. You can adjust it to your needs and it can be as diverse as you want it to. It don't have to be the exact ratios as I'm giving. The ratios I am providing from my tests should not burn and gives them a good healthy boost in their first month if not longer. Remember you are feeding the soil not the roots

It's better if you keep recycling your soil when your done with your grow. I flush the soil really well after harvest and use the old soil as my compost part of my base then add promix and amendments. This keeps the micro bacteria population high.

Thank you TBM It means alot coming from you. Yes always wear a mask when mixing soils let it be poo or peat you don't want to breath either of them.

:thumbs:thanks for sharing mate. Im trying to get the right ingredients here to make a good organic soil mix so such info (as also shared by many others on here) is invaluable.

If I may, a couple questions for you.

Im hoping to find some kelp meal and possibley green sand here tomorrow - though not as confident on the green sand.

I cant get normal guano here though (Ill keep looking but can only find liquid forms here in Aus). My base is commercial organic compo and will also be adding blood and bone meal - is that enough to make up for the lack of guano you think? Ill also have the shells in there etc etc

Also, Ive been slack - as usual and am not prepared like I should be. I plan on mixing the mix tomorrow (about to hit the sack now) but am hoping (and I say hoping) to have some plants showing sex in a week or so which is when I plan on tiering into this mix. Is that enough time to let it sit? I can appreciate it wont be enough time to mazimise it but will it be too hot? As mentioned, the compo and all parts in this are commercial so should be well broken down and heat treated etc.

At this stage I have organice nutes to run but in future Ill work firther on having a solid base and my own comp teas so if theres anything you think I should leave out of the planting mix for now, considering the short time I have for it to stand before planting, that would be great info too

cheers mate

The blood and bone meal should suffice if you could give me the n-p-k on them so I can better judge how much you should add. I would let it cook for at least a month anything under that and you could burn. Whats the temp's like around there if temp's are high I would say 3 weeks. Everything needs to break down properly and cool down.

What is your take on coco? I like it better then peat. Although may experience is limited to a couple small grows. 1 thing I have noticed is coco drys pretty fast, especially in an air pot. Wasn't planning on not using peat all together, maybe 50/50 or something of the sort.

cheers mate - looks like the n p k ratio is 5% of each so 5-5-5. Does that seem right? Temps are around about 86F currently.

I wont have the time span to tier the current seedlings I have into this mix but will get it happening for my next run and most likely plant current seedlings just into plain compo on this run.

The Greensand is for trace minerals & some minor/micro nutrients - your local garden center should have something similar. Azomite is another organic alternative

Cheers - Ill add Azomite to the list. Unfortunately my local garden centre has lotsa pesticides/herbicides etc etc but not as much of the beneficial stuff - I shall keep looking when I can though.

I don't see any problem with adding coco to your mix. I've been thinking of getting some myself. I like my soil to dry out quick It helps roots get better established spreading out and looking for water so when you do water they explode with growth.:amazon:

Alright so with the bone meal and blood meal I would add 2 cups each we are looking for a pretty even ratio. also if you have a place around you that sells live stock feeds most things used to feed live stock can be ground up to create awesome meals like alfalfa can be put in a grinder and make alfalfa meal and cotton seed all types of seeds have properties in them to make awesome trace minerals for bacteria. That's what we are shooting for feed the soil not the roots. Azomite is some great stuff if you check this guy out Growing your greens he stands by azomite or any other rock dust if you can't find azomite search for glacier rock dust It's the same thing.

Thanks to this thread, I have a large "Box 'O Shit". Seriously, I asked Lever why he used so many types of guano. Shit is shit, right? Wrong! The diet and habitat of the bats affects the mineral composition of the guano. I have a large tub of various guanos, minerals, 2 types of yeast, and powdered beet juice now. I had a bunch of seed from a Short Stuff cross that I am using. The final smoke is getting better and and better as the soil "builds character" with the added diversity of guanos. The beet juice for those that are wondering triggers multiple bloom sites and can double the size of your plant overnight in the early bloom phase of growth. it takes some practice so that you don't burn the plants, but the reward is worth the hassle of storing 4 or 5 types of shit....

shit always deserves a  after all its the four letter word for relief
