Doctor...help!

My medium is FFOF mixed with Happy Frog
5 gallon buckets
tap water with ph of 6-6.5
600watt HPS bout 25" above on only 50 % output.
temps between 72 and 80 with lights on. Lights out temps bout 67-70
rH between 58 and 72%
inside grow tent 4x4x6.5
no nutes
just about two weeks in and plant is on its second set of 5 leafs
Using ph probe
Light cycle 18/6
soil pH 6.5
fan blowing in tent was on full time
Even the new leaves come out with a slight curl on edges.
No spots or yellowing

Any input would be greatly appreciated

Photos of curling leaves

Leaves curling a bit. Plant is green and healthy looking otherwise. Photos have an orange tint due to color of buckets.

Ahoy mate! :smoke: We need pics, plzzz... and the ratio of OF:HF you mixed at,... My first suspect is the soil richness; likely, you heard that straight OF is too hot for auto seedlings, and this blend is fine as long as it's HF heavy; auto's are rather variable strain to strain in their tolerances for soil richness as well, complicating the issue; the other grow parameters look fine,...uhhh,...wait- how about that fan? Is it buffeting the plants pretty strongly? Wind burn can cause these symptoms as well,... So, no spotting/discoloration/dead tissue at tips and edges you say?...

LOL! shit, how funny! I just posted and *poof*... pics! Okay, I see what you're talking about,... hate to be a pain, but can you get a couple in normal light? HPS light is lousy for diagnostics! It's a weird tight roll, isn't it,... hmmm, gimme some time to look into this more; nothing I see screams red alert,.. so hang easy for bit....

Thanks for the reply! First time grower here. Fan was oscillating. I just moved it pointing away from plant so no direct wind on plant. I am using a 50/50 mix of HF and OF.
i would swear I was doing everything right. I did so much reading before I started I was cross eyed. Weeks of reading and still not done.
let me know what you think. If soil is too hot...do you think it's something I can let her work through or should. I water the hell out of it and flush it once?
thanks again. I'm hanging loose. Temps right now are 77.3 w/56% rH
as far as pix in regular light...I will try and get them with flash when lights go out so I don't disturb her too much.
no discoloration at all. New leaves popping everywhere. No dead tips..all looks pretty green and growing half inch or more a day now. I was taking it easy on giving her drinks since she is a pup but yesterday gave her a healthy drink. That FF doesn't hold a lot of water

...not sure yet myself, ...thinking it might just be genetic or something during early tissue growth that made it grow out funny like this,... the lack of other trouble signs makes me lean this direction,... getting another pair or two of eyes to look in,...

Heat stress bro, when the leaf edges curl like that it is a sign of heat. It doesn't necessarily have to be ambient temperature either. It can be from the lights being too close to the plant. If the temps in your grow room is good, ie. below mid 80's then raise your light up about 12" and see if the curl doesn't go away in less than an hour.

So you're thinking heat stress. My light is 26" above and ballast is at only 50 %. My first thoughts were heat but with the light so high, and most recommending about 20", I didn't think that was the issue.
i will double check my measurements.
im really digging having a doctor for our troubles...me and Hazel...that's her name

A4 buddy! :pighug: I was about to ring your doorbell! ...so, this is heat curls, huh? I wasn't sure, since there's no roast marks on the surface, and the HPS light hides the dull surface appearance the leaf gets with proximity heat stress,... thanks my friend! :tiphat:

I have raised my light and I will keep the doctors informed on the results. As far as everything else..does my method, room, lighting and soil seem to work for a good grow?
thank you all for the help. It's a pleasure to be here. I'm growing so as not to have to take all the pain killers for RA, HEP C and kidney disease so I'm really hoping this works out

Hazel, lol, she looks like a fine Hazel man. That has to be the funniest thing I have read today.

Yes, it is definitely heat/light stress. So you are running about 300W at 26", try going to about 36" just for grins. If it is light stress, they will lay back down within an hour. At that age they don't need a lot of light. I normally set mine to 250W and keep them about 36" above the plants until I see the nodes beginning to stretch. At that point I bump my wattage up and drop the light around 18" and try to keep the node distance around 1". The farther the light is away from the plant the more distance between nodes, the closer the light is, the tighter the nodes.

Lastly, there are two signs you can watch your leaves for as far as actual movement. The first one you have seen. The leaf edges curl, that is always heat/light stress. You can add a fan blowing across the top of the plants as well and help that out sometimes. The second is when your leaf folds up from the vein. I have seen mine fold right down the middle like closing a book. That is low humidity every time.

Best of luck with Hazel! She sounds like she has a good caretaker.
