Hey everyone,

recently I started three plants (2x Speedy, 1x Auto Bubble) in a very 'improvised' closet grow space. Aside from the seeds and a 150W CFL Mammoth light set, everything else is only as good as my conditions allowed. All the more happy I am to see my plants thriving. The only issue has been some excess heat from the lamp ... but that improves with raising it farther from the plants. I started first two weeks at 24/0 and now switch to 23/1 to eventually get at 20/4 at the start of flowering.

The below are pics from Day 7 (of photosynthesis) and Day 14. Quite a progress I think.

This brings me to a QUESTION on you. My growbox is rather limited in space and height (110 cm - given these strains are supposed to average at 70 cm). I just would like to make sure that I keep their height in control (thats why I kept the lamp relatively low for the babies not to jump up too much) while not harming potential harvest too much. Although light have been at same height for 5 days, I get a 1,5-2 cm growth each day now. I suppose the lights should go up again very soon.

At the moment, all plants are about 9-10 cm above ground. Im wondering how much of a jump should I expect with flowering? Some said about 200%?

Maybe it would just be most helpful to post the pics which will tell more than me (Bubble always first).

Nice to meet you greensrobert. Your plants look great. You are going to see amazing growth literally overnight when the plants take off. I am growing in less than 65cm from the top of my res to the bottom of my light. To control the height of my plants I pull the main cola over and tie it down when the plant is 2-3 weeks old. I get a lot of medium size buds instead of a few large ones. I grow under LED but with CFL I understand you can place the light very close to the plant. I've read that a few inches is possible throughout the grow. Good luck!

Hi and thanks for your response jackmc. It appears that regardless of the lamp height, the babies simply want to go up - about 2cm a day, each having about 4-5 sets of fast developing branches now. As neither has shown pistils yet - I am wondering - could they already be in the pre-flower sprint? If so, I would not worry too much, but otherwise Id like to control the height should I still expect an approx 200% jump. This brings me to another question, do autos start flowering depending on the ("programmed") number of days or rather their actual growth progress?

I'm no expert but that is how I understand the flowering process with autoflowers. The way I think about it is that they will flower and mature in a fairly specific amount of time. I don't try to influence that. You want to watch the plant at the end of the process to harvest at the right time depending on the plant and your preferences. I use Muddy's "life cycle of autoflowering cannabis" https://www.autoflower.org/f44/life-cycle-auto-flowering-cannabis-5113-3.html as a guide. Let me add that I am growing Mephisto Genetics Sour Crack and that is a really fast plant. So there are some exceptions to the prescribed timeline. You may see 5-10cm/day before it's all over.

Once again, thanks for sharing. Yes, Muddy's text is indeed a precious one, just as I put seeds in soil I made a preliminary timeplan according to it ;-) I will post new pics by Day 21, just for people to compare, with specified strains.

Will look forward to the pics. Standing by.

Day 21 Update

Day 21 Update

Well the (still just) girls seem to be doing pretty well. I have not noticed any notable issues myself. They are about 22-24 cm tall now, and as seen on pictures really got into branching. I have helped that with one that wanted up more than others and bent the main stem. This allowed me to +- equalize height so that I can keep the lamp as close as possible without stressing them while they all get similar radiation dose.

I cant wait for them to become ladies, as much as any member here I suppose:-) From what I've read, this should be quite close. Have you guys got any experience with when Kannabia Speedy G and OO Auto Bubble show first pistils? Do you have experience growing/toking Speedy G? I'd love to hear something apart from the bank promo info. Anyone?

Day 28

The plants are about 40-42 cm tall. Speedy Gs sexed by Day 23, but the Auto Bubble still would not show pistils - although she does show the first seed 'pockets' with tiny white hairs at the top. As compared to Speedy Gs, her leaves were more yellowish-green so I tried adding up some more N-rich fertilizer and she seems to have responded well. Could this be the reason for delayed sexing? (on paper it should end 10 days earlier that Speedys). All three seem to have entered stretch.

The lamp is now for two days with 75w 6500k tNeon TCL combined with 75w at 2700k.

As soon as the time comes, I will start feeding them with Advanced Nutrients Ph Perfect Sensi Bloom, with additions of Gold Label Ultra PK (11/12) at a later stage. I know, not the same brand ... Any thoughts on that?

Cheers to all
