Manganese defiency? Would be random...

I've looked and looked, and I the closest I can come up with is a manganese deficiency. Anybody have an idea?

I have 11 photo plants, and this is on 4 leaves of one plant and I just found the brown spots (how it starts before fading yellow) on one leaf of a different strain. If it's a manganese problem then I have a pH problem.

I'm growing in soil in containers in my backyard and have never had a pH issue - not that I've ever checked - just haven't had symptoms.

Any suggestions? FIRST I'd like to confirm the problem before I look for solutions. I'm alarmed now because of finding it on a second plant of a different strain.

After more research I still think it's a manganese thing, tho this is affecting the older leaves, not the newer leaves. Those faded yellow spots are what I'm looking at, and later with the rust colored spots.

I need some help here, family! I need to get out and water, and if I need to lower the pH I'm not sure what I would add... So I'll give them a splash of water now, and feed later today after I make sure I'm not adding something that's freaking out their balance.

I've been feeding pretty much full strength, not higher:
Dyna-grow (veg growth)
Big Bloom (micronutes)
Cal-mag
few drops of superthrive when I think of it
Roots organic soil - nothing added

3 leaves on one white dragon and one leaf on the jack cheddar are affected so it's not a huge deal right now, but it could be later....

I'd be more inclined to think it's a cal/mag issue rather than manganese. First think I would do is check the pH. If it's off and causing a lockout situation, nothing will help until that is corrected.

Thanks, Muddy! I'm going to read up on how I do that (I KNOW I've seen it here at AFN ) and get some pH test strips...

I appreciate your help - going to take this step by step and do it right for once! I'll post my results soon, hopefully.

edit: I just found out about the soil probes... good to know that's available too

I purchased a digital 4-way soil meter yesterday, and the battery that came with it was already "low battery" when I used it... I'll get a battery today, but in the meantime, I pH tested our tap water with the drops - it was 7.5, but the runoff was yellow! Looks about 5 on the pH scale, so it's low... The plants are outside and I water with the hose unless I'm feeding, which I mix up in 2 gal watering cans. Anyway, I'm not exactly sure how much runoff there was compared to what went in, but I waited until the stream out was flowing pretty good before I took the sample. Now I'm curious what the soil probe will say!

Ok, pH too low... What is the next step?

I`d flush the moody pots, sounds like lock out. Feed the water in slowly and use 3x(at least) the amount of water to pot size. Then check the ph again. The yellow colour makes me think your soil is drenched in nutes! I`m sure Muddy will come back t`you soon mate, all the best!

I would do a flush as Krug has suggested. Flushing also leaches out all the nutrients, so the last gallon you flush should contain a mild nute solution. Also, the water used for the flush should be pHed to around 6.5.

Outdoors it's harder to maintain a proper pH because of the rain the plants will receive. In my area, the pH of rain water tends to be very high. I would suggest adding some dolomite lime to your soil mix. You can mix a little into the top layer of soil but for future grows, add it to the mix from the beginning. It will help to buffer the pH.

I don't think I've been watering them enough at the feedings either (never runs out the bottom), which is something I can easily correct from now on. Just found light spots on another plant this morning - thanks AGAIN so much!

muddys right the rainwater is high!...also I hear there's a controversy about the rainwater after the nuclear plant breakdown that happened in japan something they don't want you to know about might want to look it up (radioactive acid rain?)
