You've grown a crop from say Sour Diesel seeds. Is it cool to market it as Sour Diesel? Even if you may have grown it in a totally different manner than the original? Does the original grower own a copyright on the name?

I have no issue telling what genetics are behind my grows, "credit given to the breeder"
The issue arises when its sold commercially, some breeders do indeed hold licenses on their genetics, and you have to be an approved grower to market their gear to the public.

But on the darker side of the street, I don't know that it matters as much.

One thing I've been wondering, especially for those in states still fighting to become legal--- Do you think names like Crystal Meth, CBD Crack, etc hinder how JQ Public sees us?

I presume that few, if any, trademarks (at least US) have been granted for cannabis strains, with any granted ones somehow slipping by the requirement that trademarks only be granted for legal products/services. Old and names long used commercially, such as Sour Diesel, do not receive trademarks. So in nearly all cases, commercially using a strain name used by someone else pretty much comes down to asking that strain's source nicely for permission (or not), no legal requirements or restrictions on others using non-trademarked names, only what personal/professional ethics demand.
