Hey whats up? I'm interested in the Marshydro 2 1600w for a 5x5 tent. On the website it says it can cover a 5x5x canopy. I figured I would ask here to see if anyone is using a Mars 2 1600w in a 5x5. Is it enough for lighting for a 5x5? Do you notice a Thanks.

Lighting Marshydro 2 1600w question

I don't know if anyone here is using that light, but I'm covering a 4'x4' space with one, 193z3 Reflector series. a 1600 watt Mars II should be PLENTY of light for a 5'x5' space! Feed them right and you should have monsters!
The 1600 should give you about 30watts/sqft which is considered adequate. If its not too much more expensive, youd be better off getting two smaller lights, like the 900s. Then you will get better coverage, you can use a single light when the plants are young and save power and also if one fails, you arent stuck lightless while waiting for a replacement!
I'm not sure that the watts/sq.ft. is even a useful gauge, other than with very low power lights. I have a 192 x 3 Reflector that uses a true 347 watts covering a 4'x4' sapce giving me 21.68 watts/sq.ft. Yet I'm fairly sure my plant is going to give me 8oz of dry bud when done, from the look of her now. And if I'd have placed 2 or more plants under it, the harvest would likely be closer to a pound. I think people need to start considering a balance between grow space and power consumption. yes up to a point, more is better, but there is also a point of diminishing returns and a waste of electricity. Personally, I think that 1600 watt unit is a waste of time and power for most growers who grow in small spaces ( less than 20 sq.ft. ). I'm willing to bet I could grow just as much in that space with a single Mars II 900. Maximize efficiency and you'll grow great harvest in a less wasteful fashion
Watts/sqft isnt ideal, but for people getting into growing, its a useful way to get a general idea of what will work and wont. One of the biggest problems new growers have is growing plants under inadequate light and wondering why they dont develop properly. Of course some of the new generation LEDS produce much more light/watt that older ones do, but for cheaper level LED's, I think it gives people a good target that should allow them to grow respectable plants. A 900 in a 25sqft area would be too little IMO, about 18w/ft, but Im sure some growers could still grow respectable plants using this light. At the same time, others would struggle and end up with fluffy buds....
BTW I just noticed the OP was talking about TWO 1600, that is a lot of light for a tent this size and unnecessary unless you are running a serious SOG under ideal conditions, probably need CO2 also to utilize this much light...
If you are sold on Mars2, Id consider 4 mars 2 400s for this space, that would be really good, or look at the reflector series, while I havent used these, Ive seen enough grows using them to know they are decent lights and I like the ability to switch off some reds during veg phase.
