What should i expect when only using metal halide bulbs. will they not be as dense or will it hurt them. im low on funds and came across 2 400 watt ballasts and 4 bulbs for 75 dollars. and its all i can afford till next month or if i geta customer with dire need ofa new computer. but by the time i get the exta cash one should be done.

What are u gunna plug the bulbs in to? Do u already have hoods or what?

Ceramic metal halide bulbs produce a good spectrum of light for vegetative growth, but their capacity to help during flowering is diminished because they generally lack enough red light to keep the plants happy. HPS bulbs help fill that gap. Either can be used alone with decent results, depending on the myriad of other variables associated with growing, but ideally you'd have both, or something that produces both, like dual spectrum bulbs or led grow lights. Depending on the type of ballast you might be able to switch out the bulbs when it comes time to flower. Hope this helps.

no hoods i made a make shift grow room closet do to an animal eating half of my meds. i put in an led blue red 15 watt as well. heres a pic.

MH produces good results, not quite the same quality as HPS, but really damned good. 400w MH will be plenty of light for that space, just make sure you manage heat and airflow properly.

i have a high powered fan directly attached to the outside towards the ballests hotpoint which is keeping everything super cool. its at 820F by the end of the day. and when the light shuts off it gets to about 75 F . trying to get it to 72 day and 65 55 at night.
