There is a problem.

We don't know how those 20+% samples were prepared.
There is a financial advantage to claiming high thc numbers.

It's true that some growers are better than others, and as you decided to point out, I could be a terrible grower.
But when any grower establishes a baseline of potency over dozens of strains, and several years, questionable lab tests of a harvest particle are far less reliable than how we judge the potency using our own bodies.

When I grew Double Grape, my friends didn't like it.
They loved my other stuff.
I'd give it about 12% thc, but there is thc variation among phenotypes, and the average of several grows would likely be higher.

Growers Choice claims 26% for their CriticalPurple auto.
I didn't believe that number when I bought the seeds, and my suspicion was born out when I grew it.
it's really in the typical 15-20% potency like most other high thc strains.

THC numbers are highly suspect.

I once read an article in which the results of tests from different labs were compared. It was quite clear that at least some breeders were deliberately choosing labs whose results were higher than most others.

I have not run into a thorough test of variation in bud within a single plant. I suspect that the variation is large, and that breeders have learned how to select samples that are the highest in a given plant.

Anyway, I have grown Mephiso Cosmic Queen, 24 Carat, 4Assed Monkey, and Fugue State, and they all kick my ass if I vape enough of them. I love the smell and taste of CQ, and the sleep effects of 24C. 4AM and FS are both close in their own ways. All different, and all good.

I don't sweat the THC numbers, just vape as much as I need, and select by the effect and flavor. If it ain't strong enough, vape more.

I'm pretty unconvinced that THC% has that much effect, within reason. I ran a Blacklight CBD from Sensi that's supposed to be 12-15% THC and approx 7% CBD. That stuff does get me high and seems to last longer than a non-CBD strain. There's a lot more going on than just THC%. Still sticking with SODK as my strongest feeling Meph strain so far. I think my Strawberry Nuggets was probably higher in THC but not the same effect.
