Hey fellow autoflowering lovers :)

im new to this site but not completly new to growing AF. I grew the original lowryder back in 2006ish using a 125W Envirovlight over 4 plants in a meter x meter homebox tent... and lets just say the results were very poorl... 5gs of poorness!!

But this time im doing it right. My Friend offered to sell me his tent which is 3ft x 3ft with an 18" depth.. im yet to see it but for £20 i snapped it up and gonna pick it up shortly once the snow eases round my area and i can actually get to his house.
But i did go to my local 2nd hand hydro grow store an bought a comple 400W HPS and some flowering nutes which were recommended to me by the salesman but i cant remember what they are called and they arnt near my person to check the name. Iguan Organic- or something like that?.. ill check it out and tell.
What im unsure about is what kind of soil should i use? I hear a 'light mix' is recommended for AF, what would you say? The store i went to didnt stock any and he said i can but it online.
Also would i fit 3 plants in the tent you reckon? Under just the one 400W light?
I was thinking of hanging 4 or 5 40W blue spec CFL's to germinate them. Would you say that was wise?
The site, Herbies where i bought the seeds say the can grow between 40-80 cm but what with the light and the hight of the tent im using, could i clip the tip of the plants to bush them out an keep them to around 60cm? (if the even make i that big?) And at what stage should i clip and stop slipping? after about 2 weeks or so?
Was planning on using 7litre pots for them but this is just a thought i had and have no idea whether is the right size.

Has anyone grown this strain before? If so, how much did you yield dry? To the experienced growers with good instinct, would you say i have a good chance at producing a decent crop from the 3 of my girls?

All help is greatly appreciated and once were up and running then im definatly gonna be posting a photo diary :)

id want 4 plants in there in 10-11l pots

1-3oz a plant possible 4-12 oz

sorry i misread the size 18" depth yes 3 max

welcome to afn! so glad ya found us!:toke:

i have grown up to 10 af's under a 400w hps/mh before w/ out standing results. i always recommend sunshine advanced promix 4...there is little to no nutes in it and it drys fast...it is considered soiless as it mostly coco and perlite...also if your budget will allow i would recommend 3gal smart pots...

you can always top them or even lst them...both are great ways to manipulate the height of the plant...

hope all goes well for ya:smokebuds:

nice one for the info mate.. yea i didnt really get the 18" depth thing either but thats what the chap said to me over the phone when i asked him about the size of the tent. ive neer seen it coz e-vbery time ive been round his gaff its been up in the loft.
so would you say im doung everything right by the sounds if it?

if it really 18" depth a 400w may run on the hot side and you will need the right shade (good) to spread over 3ft

and very good extraction

We were thinking having a window cracked slightly near to where the tent will be and have atleast a really decent fan or 2 on it at all times....

ahhh thank you to everyone who has answerd my questions and given me sound advice.. i have a proper good feeling about this grow.
What would you say the ideal temp should be in the tent? and also the smell... will it stink out the flat its growing in? I grew my first lowryders in a homebox in the garage and remember only smelling anything when i opened up the tent..

Welcome to THE AutoFlower Network. The home of everything auto and all vibes good.

Hey man, I sincerely urge you to listen to the advice about temps. Check this thread out here; https://www.autoflower.org/f44/temp-issues-16097.html
250W CFL with the tent open and windows cracked in freezing temperatures, still can't stabilize the temperatures. No way in hell a 400W HPS would run cool enough. I know it's easy to think it'll be under control, but believe me I ran a 400W HPS in a similar space with no vent and cold temperatures and the closet spiked over 110 degrees F.

As far as yield goes, there's no way to tell my friend - it's all in the environment, grower and genetics. I've seen good growers on this forum make decent genetics look superb. Also, you never provided us the name of the strain or the breeder, so we can't offer much insight on that one!

400W is plenty for 3 plants, but I don't think you'll be able to successfuly run 400W in that space to be honest.

Again, what strain / genetics are you using so we can get a better idea on the odor, but if odor has any chance of being a concern or risk, don't chance it.

Once you start your grow, I invite you to start a grow journal here on this forum so we can follow along on your grow and offer advice as needed. It's good to have so many extra sets of eyes on your grow, especially as a new grower because folks can see what's going on as it happens.
In the mean time, if you want head over to the Introductions forum and start up a thread introducing yourself, it's a good place to note your experience and knowledge and let everyone know you're here for the long haul!

Look forward to hearing back from you, thanks for joining us!
