I'm back, I've got an outdoor plant going and it's doing way better than my last plant. BUT I do have spider mites. Which I am working on, anybody know a cure for that? I sprayed it yesterday with a hose to knock them off. I'm about to try isopropyl alcohol on the leaves but if that doesent work I'm stuck. Also. She is sick and I can't figure out what's wrong bexause I think it's multiple things. I took some pictures of the leaves. Some of the tips look like they are turning black. And they are bending up and down. A very weird plant, I've had 2 fingered leaves 3 fingered and 4 lol. But here's pics. Can anybody help?

Hey Auto'- Don't see the pics, mate.... Post them at the infirmary too, please... you'll get responses there faster! So, are you certain of the mites? If so, alcohol will kill them, yes, but it's hard on the plant's cuticle layer,... and retreating-- which is mandatory for sp. mites-- can start to burn the tissues,... there are lots of products on the market for this, some especially for mites... Ones I know are safe for the plant, and us, include Azamax, Neem, something with spinosad in it,... look online at a horticulture store, and you'll see what I mean- *** I'll look for the pics at the Infirmary, okay?

thread moved to the infirmary, Should get some more action.

Get some pyrethrin. I use it. It's extracted from a plant so it's harmless to yours. It also more or less completely degrades in a few days of sunlight and oxygen. And most importantly it banishes the bugs.

Just don't bathe in it yourself, I've heard it can act as a nerve toxin.

Best of luck!

Insecticidal soap works very well against spider mites. It's a contact killer and water soluble, so the rain, or a garden hose, will wash it away. Most products, including insecticidal soap, don't kill the eggs, so they will continue to hatch out. That's why retreatment is needed 4-5 days later. Usually 3 treatments will kill them all. Safer sells insecticidal soap so you should be able to find it any of the big box stores.

Sorry about that guys. And I'll try to find those products!

also what does purple on the stems mean?

Hey AFP, I looked at your plant and didn't notice purple stems at all, they look pretty healthy to me. That being said, purple stems can be from genetics, lack of magnesium, cooler weather or if the plant is real dark green with purple stems I would look at phosphorous deficiency.
