New Grower My First Auto Grow White Widow from Dinafem Fem Seeds

I'm going to use a 1000 watt Metal Halide. I Retrofitted the 1000 watt lamp into a 2' x 4' florescent fixture. I'm also going to use 5 gallon buckets for my first grow. If any one can give me any advice on what soil to use and the best nutrients to use that would be great. The seeds are from dinafem the White Widow Auto's. How far should i place the lamp? The lamp is the smalller type its about the size of a 400 watt lamp not the huge type. Its my first grow all input will be greatly appreciated!
