Here we are at the day before Thanksgiving! As you may know, or don't know, Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday of the year. Everyone in the USA can celebrate Thanksgiving regardless of race, religion or nationality. We are all Americans giving thanks for what we have whether that is an abundance of love, abundance, or rocks! Here is an abbreviated version of a story I first sent out 10 years ago today:
I was recently divorced for the 2nd time. This was not my life plan! I had made the decision I would do whatever it took to make that marriage work. It didn't work and I found myself back in a one bedroom apartment where most of my neighbors came and went like a grocery store. It was transient housing.
As I was feeling sorry for myself that I had absolutely nothing. No love interest, my kids weren't around and I was a bit depressed. Truth be told, it was probably a bit more than a bit depressed.
I knew that form follows thought and if I wanted to change my attitude, I needed to change my thoughts. So what did I do?
I went into meditation and prayer and affirmed that all was right in my world. Notice that I affirmed it,. I didn't pray to get it. I prayed that I already HAD it!
Then I took my sage bundle, lit it and went to work. I went to everything in my little apartment. I went to the refrigerator and thanked and blessed it for keeping my food safe for me. I went to the couch and thanked and blessed it for giving me a place to sit and enjoy my self. I blessed the TV for bringing the world to me and providing entertainment. I blessed and thanked the shower for providing me with hygiene so I can be healthy. I blessed and thanked the toilet for assisting me in elimination the toxins from my body. If I could see it, I would thank and bless it. EVERYTHING!
As I finished this process, my heart was filled with so much joy and gratefulness! We get so use to having "things" around us that we take them for granted. If we have a car, we want a newer car. If we own a home, we want a bigger one or a nicer one in a better neighborhood. Our nature seems to keep us in a state of want rather than in a state of thankfulness. It is when we move to gratitude and gratefulness that the Universe can respond to us in like form.
If your not feeling grateful, take a gratitude awareness day. What DO you have that brings you comfort? What DO you have that brings you joy? What DO you have that makes your life alive? Celebrate it! Give thanks for it! Embrace it! And I guarantee you, the next year you will have more to be grateful for.
