yup im new too but i can perhaps point you in the right direction, ive been reading up on it too, personally when i start im gonna go with the fox farm ocean forest soil....but heres the link, hope it helps out. cheers:thumbs:

If you buy one specificly made for canna you wont go wrong mate, your grow shop should keep you right. ive used b-bizz and plant magic soils with great results but i would say avoid miricle grow as a few of my mates have had probs with this

Hello. First of all, NO stupid questions here in the New Growers Forum or anywhere here really.
Do you have availability to grow shops more in line with the products used for growing Cannabis?
Or are you relying to order online? Shipping can get you on heavy bags of soil, but it can be done.
Or are you looking to find what's best in your area, such as a hardware store, grocery store, local nursery, etc.?
Othersies you have been given some good advice. Fox Farms is fine, but you need a light mix to start your seedlings in. The Ocean Forest will be too hot in nutrient additives, so if you had access to
stuff, look for the Light Warior, or Happy Frog. Those are lighter seed starting mixes, especially the LW.
Jiffy Seed starter mix is good to start in. Walmart, Home Depots, Lowes, etc.
Promix is great for starting AND for the entire grow and can be found locally sometimes. Call and check around at Ace, Home Depot, local nurseries, stuff like that.
All assuming you're in the States. If you're UK, look for Bio Bizz Light.

I'm nearly at day 60 with fat frosty buds and as a first time grower I wanted to go first time without breakin the bank. So I went to a garden center and got a huge sack of organic compost for next to nothing aslong as its free of slow release nutes you can grow with it. Maybe add so fine gravel or perlite so its not as dense. Good luck
