Lighting one more quick ?

Well-its over now. I just placed an order with cob kits and went with the 1818's and ideal holders. I'll have to get the driver else where. I like the way you used that extrusion. I've used stuff like it for a router table I made for fence and bit port adjustments. I've been checking out your builds. Very nice work!! And thanks for your help. Pipes
Thanks a lot LP. It really is enjoyable and such a great feeling knowing you built your own. Making what you can't buy is also very nice as well. I really think you'll be happy with the 1818's. How many are you using again?

My frame won't be nearly as nice as yours. Not on this build anyhow but it would be nice to have a fully adjustable system. I bought 4 of the 1818 3500K 90CRI. The original driver that I was going to use-HGL 240H 1050-would be able to run these cobs but I don't know if its optimal. I'll have to look into it some more. On your response to me on the Ideal holders-the 1825 is a 58 series cob will the rest of them are 48 series and I couldn't find an Ideal holder for the 58 series. I probably screwed up. Oh Well. I also ordered the thermal tape for attaching the cobs but most people on here use the thermal grease. Why is that? What kind of pisses me off is that I have a brand new Platinum 300 panel I just received and is still in its unopened box. I will use it for my next grow that I'm getting ready to start but if I like my cob set up then the Platinum will be used only once. Thanks again for all your help:thumbsup:Pipes

BTW on your top picture it looks like you've mounted 2 cob drivers and 2 fan drivers. What kind of build is that?

One more quick question. I've ordered 4 citizen 1818 cob's and they claim best efficiency at 90W or higher. I was planning on 300W at the wall and was looking at the MW HLG 240 or 320 series of drivers. The bottleneck here seems to be the ideal holders being rated at 250W. If I'm looking at this right then I'll need 2 drivers to get my 300W at the wall right? I may be slow but I'm dabbling in something that's way out of my comfort Zone. Any advice will be once again appreciated. Pipes

The 1818 and 1825 take different holders. The holders would take place of kapton tape. Kapton tape holding the cobs down is not recommended. There are thermal pads and thermal grease. I prefer the gease since I do a lot of cobs and read some bad things about the pads. They are used to bridge the gap between the cob and heatsink and mandatory!

The money you will save from increased yield and less energy consumption is worth it. That platnium is the same as a mars just different chop shop.

They are rated in volts not watts. You can run 4 1818's on those holders. 50-54volts times 4

I was referring to the thermal pads not the tape. My bad. I did however order the pads. Thanks. Pipes
