Last summer I tried out 7 strains by flash seeds and short stuff. It was a test to see how autoflowers would do outdoor in northern california.

I tested:
Super stinky
Chaze
nirvanna sky
Super Cali
Anna P
Number 1
MI5
Onyx

My interest was in super autos. I wanted a plant that would finish before all my photos, a plant that had decent yields, smelled good and had nice tight buds.

I started germination in paper towels on feb 19. The seedlings were under t5s until late march when they were moved into a greenhouse. Then they were planted in pots outdoors. They got about 6 hours of full sun from 9am or so to around 4-5pm.
I grew the MI5 and onyx b/c all the super autos were fem only and I want to cross them with the super autos and then grow out those crosses (which I will do this summer)
Super stinky performed the best, it was 2nded by chaze (they looked really similar, I could only distinguish them by smell once dried and manicured). The produced about 250 gr each and grew to be around 5foot tall each. They had nice tight buds. Not super huge, but nice sized ones. They were harvested in the 2nd week of september. The others didnt get as big, produced more fluffy buds. Nirvanna sky never really got big.

the 1st photo is NS really small already flowering, chaze and SS were still growing vegetatively. Super cali, AP and number were still in veg but would stop growing vegetatively a few weeks later. SS and chaze were the last to start flowering. They were getting so big that I stepped them up to 35 gallon pots. The others were in 15. I never stepped up N. Sky bc it was already flowering so soon. 2nd photo.

this is SS, super big showing no signs of flowering. Chaze is as big and at the same stage. SS was only a little bit taller because the main stem cola grew above the side branches and in the chaze they were pretty even.

Anna P grew tall and its side branching was limited and they were not long. annaP (162x640).jpg

Number one grew longer side branches but not as tall.

I have more pictures - close ups and pics of them at other stages. I just wanted to get this message out there. ANY requests for more pics?
other than that I used onyx male to pollenate chaze, super stinky, number 1 and anna P. I will grow them all out to see what they do.
Oh yea, Super cali showed a lot of little bananas. It pollenated itself (but nothing else). I tried to use some pollen form those bananas to pollenate SS, but no sucess. banana.jpg
All in all. Im very happy with super stinky, in fact I ordered more and they are in paper towels as we speak. This time a little earlier so instead of mid september, they finish late august. That's what i'm hoping anyways.
In intend to cross the onyx/super stinky cross with super stinky this year.
Given the time frame I would say that the super autos, when grown outdoor here in Norcal, take about 6 months instead of the 100/120 days listed.

Awesome grows man! I like them all! That SS is badass! I like that Anna P! That's what I'm trying to do in my micro now! One big single cola! Caveman club style! Lol. Wanna check out those cross man! Good luck! And welcome to AFN bro!
Stitch will love the report! Nicely done!

:2cents:If it's taking 6 months on some like you say I think there is somthing wrong. No strain photo or auto should take that long.Even at 120 days you say was listed that seems to long also. The benifit of autos is the short turn over that allows you to have more grows going. If your spending 4 to 6 months on autos I would try some other strains that mature around 65 to seventy days,or go to photos with that long of a mature time and you can get much larger yields.

hi
changed as often as Super Chaze wing pot?
I read a lot about super cars
germinated in pots of 15 or 18 liters
and leave it until the end
ends in 120 days

I changed pots 4 times for super stinky and chaze. From seedling to a 1/2 gallon. Then I put them in 15 gallons, but they were getting so big and still growing vegetatively that I put them in 35s. I originally got a pack of 5 for SS. I sprouted one on feb 19th then the others a month later. Due to space limitations I gave away the other five. They were grown out at another location, and I can ask for more info, but they didnt finish until the end of sept/early, like 6 months later.
Maybe latitude or the norcal climate had something to do with it. Even the onyx and MI5 took longer than the 2 months listed.

anyone else grown outdoors super autos in Norcal?

This was a very interesting read, thank you for your report, putitinthesun!

There is a possibility that transplanting + changes of habitat may have made them to go that long, I mean 6 months is sometimes more than some photos take to end.
I'm very happy to see the big yields you got from superautos. Also happy for me, because I just ordered some Chaze and Annapurna:)

I must not forget: Yes, I require more pics, especially Chaze and SS pics, I actually believe, everyone here wants to see all of them:thumbs:

I think Stitch says somewhere that transplanting up is one of the ways of delaying flowering in super autos, so yes, maybe that's why they took longer to flower. Agree though that it's great to see super auto outdoor grows documented and good to see confirmation of how big they get. That's what were all after!

I too am planning some this summer - have Super Cali Stitch beans already, but now thinking I must get a few Chaze to put out after reading here. Thanks for all the info.

Well the number one and anna P finished about the same time as the chaze and SS, but I kept them in 15 gallons as opposed to 35. When I pulled the chaze and SS they had an extensive root system that filled the full 35 gallon pots. I might just put the 5 SS I have for this year in 45's or do a few in 35s, a few in 45s and a few in 65 (just to see what happens). I checked today and some are sprouting. This year I will try to do more data collecting (amendments used, exact heights, dry weights, dates when gone into flower, et cetera) and report back a few times of the year instead of after the fact.
as far as Photos go, outdoors, they can take 6 months or 12 depending on when you start them and the strain, but most usually finish later than mid september. There are early strains, but these are usually indica dominate or pure indica. My desired trait in autos to to get something that will finish mid to late august that isn't an indica dominate. The reason I sprouted them so early last year is because I thought I would get two autoflower grow seasons, i. e. be able to pollenate one of the super autos with onyx, then still have time to grow out the progeny of that mix. My plan was sprout them mid february for a mid july finish, then start a second round with the superauto/onyx to see what the results would be. However all the super autos went so long, I didn't get to try it out.
Just to be clear, i'm not complaining about any results, Stitch has done great work and I grew some amazing plants. Beforehand I knew that the conditions here in NOrcal are not that of spain, or indoors, and that I would see some variation. This variation, is reported here to inform others and the breeder himself. I did the test for fun, and it was a great success: some gorgeous plants showing great diversity in height, appearance et cetera. I can really recommend Super stinky for ppl in norcal and chaze. I prefer the smell of SS though.

One more question, did you LST(or maybe top) the Chaze or why is there so many branchez?

I did no topping or any modification to the structure of the plant. I only tied up heavy branches to the bamboo structure around the plant.
