Have a look at the link below. I used to point the tail down in the soil, after all it is the root. If this theory has scientific support, auto's would benefit most.
I assume that just placing a seed in moist soil and wait for it to crack, would have some the right way up, some wrong way down, some side ways.
This then could explain why runts occur more often with auto's (after eliminating PH soil problems).

Just a theory, I have a friend that has a brother in law that is a botanist. When I see him next, I will validate with him.

I have used the poke and pray method so far only because my hands shake a bit. I only soak for about 12-16hrs, water soil, poke (about 1/2in), cover, mist till moist, pray. I mist a few times a day until they sprout, 3-5 days. Overwatered once, turned the seed to mush.

I have also seen, read and tried that method. I had issues with it to be honest. Maybe I was doing it wrong, but I don't think so. So I split the difference and place it down on the mix, and it generally falls sideways and then I gently press it down. :D

Strait in to the peat pot , using a good seed starter mix. Old school :) never had an issue.

I like to soak mine in a glass of water till they sink around a day, then just plant them half to 3/4 of an inch deep.
Have your pot pre watered and cover seed with moist soil and spray or light water after

I hated leaving them till the tale shows as said earlier there's alot of dropping of it on way to soil. Dislike paper towel as it can stick, also mentioned before:thumbs:

Good luck!

Seems split on the methods then. Think I will go paper towel until crack...gently placed in pre-watered soil and just hope the bitch pops up.
