INSECTS::Gold:

I have had some fairly serious insect problems this year with my outdoor plants.
Budda Magnum is an insect magnet btw, much more than other strains in same area and treated the same (Sevin and tobacco tea).

I have been doing some research and found what I think will be an effective solution. Its not 'organic', but it also wont be sprayed on the plants, just on the ground and vegetation surrounding them.

You can buy this chemical in stores, under the name Bug-B-Gone from ortho, but the concentration is only .3%. Talstar P is 7.9 percent and MUCH cheaper! Bifenthrin is supposed to last up to 3 months after application and be rain resistant. You may need to order Talstar online if you cannot find it locally.

RODENTS:

Assuming you know where you will be growing in advance. It is a good idea to get some poison bait, like this:

It is weather resistant, so just go out to your spot and toss blocks into the brush/weeds around were you will be growing. Best to do this late winter/early spring when still snow on the ground or before rapid plant growth starts. That is a time when mice, voles, rabbits, gophers etc are hungry and more apt to eat bait.

Piss-bombs!

You could use predator urine, but I have found that human is plenty effective, and easier to collect. Simply get 1 quart of 90+% iso from the store and dump it into a clean 1gal milk/water jug. Fill to top with urine direct from the tap. The iso kills bacteria and keeps piss from fermenting and getting nasty. Fill bombs and screw on cover with wick (hole in cover melted with bolt or nail from hardware store, heated in torch). Place these upright near your grow, most effective is to use 3 in a triangle pattern, about 10 yards away. This will create scent coverage, no matter what the wind direction is. This should be also effective in keeping rabbits away. With wick system, they only need to be refilled occasionally, no more than once a month I have found.
